‘The Good Wife’ Spin-Off Confirmed: Will Follow Diane Lockhart And Lucca Quinn

The Good Wife, a multi Award-winning political drama TV show, recently concluded its run with the final series finale last month. And while fans of the show were disappointed to hear that the show had not been renewed for a new season, the good news is that The Good Wife is confirmed to have a spin-off show, according to Vanity Fair.

The creators of The Good Wife, Michelle and Robert King, got excitement buzzing after the finale episode was aired when they spoke about the characters in the show and how much they loved them. Wistfully commenting that they would love to bring back every single character in The Good Wife, they expressed their regret that the show had to end at all.

But CBS was quick to turn The Good Wife spin-off fantasy into a reality, as it was announced last month that a spin-off will be premiering on its VOD platform, CBS All Access. The Good Wife spin-off series will focus on the well-loved characters Diane Lockhart, played by Christine Baranski, and Lucca Quinn, played by Cush Jumbo, who joined the show in the final season and was working at the same firm as Lockhart when the series concluded.

A press release by CBS stated that the Kings will be working on bringing the spin-off to life along with Phil Alden Robinson, Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer, and Brooke Kennedy. The spin-off to The Good Wife is the second biggest title to date for CBS All Access, the digital cable subscription available without a cable subscription for $5.99 a month, as the network announced last year that it was creating a new Star Trek series for 2017.

The impact of The Good Wife is apparent among the fans, as even the set design managed to draw a considerable amount of attention during the seven years of the show’s run. According to Parade, The Good Wife’s set designer, Beth Kushnick, impressed the creators of the show so much that they even invested some of the scripts into praising her work.

CBS had encouraged Beth to start writing a blog after her work on The Good Wife had captured the attention of fans. She was able to mention her retail sources on the blog for fans of the show who wanted to own similar furniture pieces to those featured on the show.

The popularity of her blog and her set designs on The Good Wife continued to soar to the point where she was eventually asked by the network if she was open to license furniture. She eventually turned to Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, the home furnishings company she had worked with for The Good Wife.

Beth Kushnick spoke on her favorite part of The Good Wife set designs.

“I had a lot of my soul in Alicia’s apartment. The palate is near and dear to my heart. Her bedroom is my bedroom color, Beach Glass by Benjamin Moore. It’s my own personal aesthetic and something that identified me for so long and connected me to people in ways I never imagined.”

She went on to say that she has been surprised by the Twitter following she has received as a result of her work on The Good Wife, saying that she is followed by people who are “fascinated and invested in the show.”

Beth Kushnick spoke on her proudest piece of work on the set of The Good Wife, and her talents in sticking within her limited budget.

“I’m really proud of Alicia’s apartment for the money. I’m a very frugal set decorator, which is what you have to be when you work in television. We’re not given an unlimited budget. I’m never over budget on an episode ever. I know how to run the money and where it’s worth spending, where it isn’t. And you have to spend. Doing a new show every eight days, you’ve got to rely on your staff and the money to get it done.”
