What’s New on Netflix? Fresh Content for the First Weekend in June

As the summer months approach, the weather finally allows for outdoor activities like family barbecues or afternoons at the park. But all the while, the leading streaming content provider brings new programming to add to your Netflix queue. Binge-watching isn’t a seasonal sport, so the available series and films at your Netflix disposal are just as important in June as it will be over Christmas break in December.

Whether you have some friends to invite over or you play to binge solo this weekend, here are the newest options available to stream on Netflix during the first weekend of June.

‘A Walk To Remember’

Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) wasn’t looking for a relationship, but that didn’t stop Landon Carter (Shane West) from falling in love with her. But it wouldn’t be a “based on Nicholas Sparks” film if there wasn’t an incredibly sad twist. Two years before The Notebook, Mandy Moore broke everyone’s heart while singing Switchfoot songs on the A Walk To Remember original motion picture soundtrack.

‘Bob Ross: Beauty is Everywhere’

If you’re feeling rather nostalgic, then Bob Ross: Beauty is Everywhere should be right up your alley. On the Mt. Rushmore of PBS childhood icons alongside Big Bird, Mr. Rogers and LeVar Burton, Bob Ross spoke to people of all ages. Thanks to Mr. Ross, almost everyone knows what it means to paint “happy trees” or how to look on the bright side of things when you make “happy mistakes.”

The ‘Jurassic Park’ Trilogy

For many millennials, Bob Ross is an early childhood memory. A Walk To Remember came during their teenage years. In between, there was Jurassic Park. The first three dinosaur movies were so epic that the brand was relaunched over a decade later in 2015. If you binge the entire trilogy, you may notice that while Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) were brought back from the original for the third, no major actors ended up in all three parts of Jurassic Park.

‘Pokémon’ — a movie and a series

If Pokémon: Indigo League and Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction weren’t enough to serve your Pokémon needs, then you’ll be glad to know that Netflix’s Pokémon options have doubled. 45 episodes at 21 minutes each and a 78-minute movie gives viewers a total of 17 hours and 3 minutes of new content available as of June 1.

‘Hall of Fame’ Athlete Wrestles With Addiction

While Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Entertainment has been pumping out a lot of quality, original content (other than in-ring wrestling) lately, The Resurrection of Jake the Snake is a 98-minute documentary about the wrestling legend’s recovery from alcoholism by way of Diamond Dallas Page and yoga. While this isn’t the first Jake Roberts documentary, it provides a rare look at his unique relationship with the Page family. This is available on Netflix rather than the WWE Network because it was not produced by WWE.

From YouTube to Netflix: Bo Burnham

Stand-up comedy specials have been an important part of the success of Netflix Originals, including offerings from such names as Hannibal Buress, Aziz Ansari, Chelsea Peretti, Patton Oswalt and Jim Jefferies. Another comedian can be added to the list, as the Netflix Original Bo Burham: Make Happy becomes available to stream on June 3.

Of course, Netflix will unleash plenty of additional content throughout the month of June. New binge-worthy shows include Voltron: Legendary Defender (Season 1), available on June 10; Scandal (Season 5) on June 11; The League (Season 7) on June 14; Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 3) on June 16; Orange is the New Black (Season 4) on June 17; and Grey’s Anatomy (Season 12) on June 18.

New films being added to Netflix in June include Darkweb (June 6), Me Him Her (June 11), The Giver (June 15), I Am Thor (June 19), and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (June 22), among many others. A full list of everything new on Netflix in June has been put together by The Screen Scene.
