Beverly Hills Cop TV Show To Star Eddie Murphy
Eddie Murphy’s movie comeback didn’t quite go as planned but the actor may be able to find some success on television. And to make sure that he has the best chance at success Murphy will be returning to his most famous character, Axel Foley, in a Beverly Hills Cop TV show.
When Murphy first starred as Axl Foley it was 1984. According to Screen Crave, the new show would involve Murphy reprising his role as the wise-cracking Detroit cop but this time he would be the chief of police. The show’s main focus would be on Axel Fole’ys son as a new member to the force. (The character hasn’t been cast yet but Jay Pharoah seems perfect for the role.)
The show hasn’t been green lit yet but Murphy and The Shield creator Shawn Ryan have been taking meetings with various networks to pitch the show.
It’s unclear if Murphy would be a regular character on the show. Last year the actor said that he would do the pilot and a few episodes here and there but didn’t want to be the focus of the Beverly Hills Cop TV show.
“What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong.”
