Gwen Stefani Turned Down Blake Shelton’s Marriage Proposal, Why The ‘Misery’ Singer Isn’t Ready To Wed
Gwen Stefani firmly rejected Blake Shelton’s marriage proposal. Why did the “Misery” singer refuse to wed the country star?
D-Listed reports that Shelton popped the big question after six months of being with Stefani. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, the proposal was very country and sounds like something Shelton would do.
Shelton hid an engagement ring — worth $1.2 million — in a box of fried chicken. The two ate the chicken during a picnic at Stefani’s mansion in Los Angeles. Unfortunately for Shelton, she wasn’t thrilled about getting hitched, despite the size of the diamond.
There were a few reasons why Stefani decided not to get married to Shelton, at least not yet.
For starters, an inside source told Radar Online that Stefani’s kids played a major role in her rejection. Stefani isn’t ready to commit to a long-term relationship unless her three sons are fully onboard.
“Gwen was very touched, but said she had to wait to make sure it was right for the kids,” the source revealed.
Stefani has three kids with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale: Kingston (10), Zuma (7), and Apollo (2).
According to International Business Times, Stefani is not going to say yes until her kids give their approval. The No Doubt frontwoman wants her children to be completely comfortable with Shelton before she agrees to marry him.“Stefani definitely tells her kids what’s going on and runs things by them all the time,” an insider explained to Hollywood Life. “She wants their wellbeing accounted for, and if and when she goes through another marriage, she wants the kids to be on board. They really like Blake, but she definitely wants to make sure they’re okay, since the divorce is still very fresh for the kids.”
Along with keeping her kids’ well-being in mind, Gwen Stefani also has doubts about the age difference between her and Shelton. Stefani and Shelton are seven years apart, and her window for having children is quickly narrowing.
“Gwen fears their age will get in the way of long-term happiness. She’s 14 years older than Blake’s ex-wife, Miranda Lambert!” the insider continued. “She’s worried Blake won’t be happy in a marriage where he might never be a father.”
Lastly, Stefani is still shaken up by Rossdale’s betrayal. Considering how Rossdale cheated on her with their nanny after 13 years of marriage, Stefani isn’t eager to jump in another marriage just yet.
“Gwen wants to trust Blake, but she fears it could come back and bite her,” the source concluded.
That being said, Movie News Guide is reporting that the picnic wedding proposal between Shelton and Stefani never happened. As the reports did not indicate when the proposal happened, that means that it might be fake tabloid news.
This isn’t the first time Shelton and Stefani have faced proposal rumors. A few months ago, reports surfaced that Stefani had asked Shelton to marry her right before he took the stage to host the 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards.Stefani reportedly asked the question during a private dinner at her mansion. Although Shelton was surprised by the proposal, he reportedly agreed to the wedding.
Of course, neither Stefani nor Shelton has said anything about a proposal or future wedding. Considering how open they have been about their relationship, they would probably not keep the big news away from fans for very long.
Whether or not Shelton proposed to Stefani by hiding a million dollar ring in a box of chicken is anyone’s guess at this point. Stefani, however, has a lot of issues to work through before she decides to tie the knot once again.
Although an engagement has not been announced, Stefani has been spotted multiple times in the past few weeks sporting a huge diamond band on her ring finger. While not an engagement ring, it is rumored that it is a promise ring from her beau.
