‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spoilers: Will Cristina Yang Return In Season 13?

Grey’s Anatomy fans are still reeling from the dramatic Season 12 finale last week, but the drama will seemingly intensify in Season 13, and if the rumors about a big return are true, fans have a lot to look forward to when the series returns in the fall.

Grey’s Anatomy fans have been waiting for the beloved character of Cristina Yang to return ever since actress Sandra Oh left the show after Season 10. However, viewers have yet to see a Cristina sighting.

According to Bustle, when Sandra Oh left the series she revealed that she would consider coming back, and that she was very interested in appearing in the show’s eventual series finale, whenever that may be.

“I told [Shonda Rhimes], ‘If you guys want to finish it out however you want to finish it out, I’d be more than happy to come back. And if it doesn’t fit in that way, I totally understand. I just want you to know that I’m available.'”

Grey’s Anatomy is one of TV’s longest running shows, as Season 13 will begin later this year, but it is unclear when the series will end. However, if Season 13 is the last, it’s possible that Cristina Yang may return to help close out the series.

The speculation among fans grew even more after Sandra Oh did an interview where she was asked if there was any truth to the rumors that she was returning to her former show. “I love that there are rumors,” was all she replied, making fans wonder with her lack of an answer if she really would be returning to Seattle in the near future.

While Grey’s Anatomy fans aren’t holding out hope that Cristina Yang will ever return, there is one fact that could mean Sandra Oh may eventually be seen on set again. Oh is really good friends with many of her former cast mates, including Kevin McKidd, who plays Owen on the show. Perhaps she’d like to work with them all again.

Owen and Cristina are former spouses, who have a very rocky history. Although they loved each other deeply, they wanted very different things in their lives, and they knew they couldn’t be together. If Cristina were to return, it would likely be very complicated between her and Owen.

In the Grey’s Anatomy Season 12 finale, Owen and Amelia were set to be married. Although, fans didn’t officially see them tie the knot, it appeared that the two were just about to say I do. Whether or not Owen and Amelia actually get married remains to be seen, but it seems safe to say that Cristina’s reappearance would definitely cause trouble for the couple.

However, the one character that would be absolutely thrilled to see Cristina Yang return is Meredith Grey. Meredith and Cristina were the best of friends, and their relationship was often the center of many storylines. When Cristina left the country for her career, Meredith was left without her best friend.

Since that time, Meredith has been through the worst tragedy of all time, the death of her husband, Derek Shepherd. While it was implied that Cristina did come back to Seattle to be there for Meredith, Sandra Oh was not seen onscreen with her former co-star Ellen Pomeo in any scenes.

It is unknown if Grey’s Anatomy fans will ever see Meredith and Cristina together again, but many fans are holding out hope that Sandra Oh will return to the series in some capacity in the near future. After all, other than Alex, she’s the only other one of Meredith’s intern friends who is still in her life after George died and Izzie skipped town.
