New Law Allows Glen Campbell’s Older Children To See Their Dad
Glen Campbell’s older children have been fighting for a while for the chance to see their dad. Now, because of a new law, they will be able to see their dad again. Taste of Country shared the details of how Glen Campbell’s children were able to get this all figured out.
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has signed a bill into law that means they can now visit their dad, Glen Campbell, even though his wife doesn’t want them there. Glen’s older children are just hoping to spend time with their father, and this will now be a reality for them. Debby Campbell-Cloyd and Travis Campbell have been battling with their stepmother, Kim Campbell, to see their dad Glen for over a year. She has been keeping them from him, but now Kim won’t have control over this at all.
As of May 16, Glen Campbell’s children will be able to see him because Governor Haslam signed the Campbell/Falk Act into law. This law protects the children of people with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or other disabilities. Because of this law, Glen Campbell’s children can go and see him no matter what a legally appointed conservator wants in the way of visitation. Glen’s kids can now visit their dad or keep in contact with him through email or by phone no matter what his wife wants them to do. This will allow Glen Campbell to spend time with his kids once again.
This law is named after the family of Columbo star Peter Falk and also Glen Campbell. Peter Falk’s daughter said that her stepmother kept her from seeing her dad, and she wasn’t even notified of his death or funeral. Their family members came to the court hearing, and so did Tanya Tucker, who used to date Glen Campbell.
Senator Rusty Crowe shared his thoughts on the Campbell/Falk Act.
“We are very pleased that this new law has been enacted. It is heartbreaking to hear [about] sons and daughters who cannot spend quality time with their parent after they are incapacitated and their health is in decline. We believe this new law strikes the right balance so that it protects the rights of some of our most vulnerable citizens, while at the same time giving the conservator a fair process to follow in protecting the ward.”
Now there is one way that Kim Campbell can keep Glen Campbell’s kids from seeing him. She can go to court and petition for restrictions, but Kim would have to prove a good reason that Glen’s older children can’t see him. This part might be hard for her to do. Glen Campbell’s younger daughter Ashley has said that nobody is being restricted from seeing her dad, but that is not the story the older children tell. She said that they only have restrictions like not wanting people to take pictures of him or bring him certain things.

Back in June of 2015, Ashley Campbell spoke to Rolling Stone and gave an update on Glen Campbell’s health. He is staying at a facility in Nashville and said he is progressing into the late stages of the disease.
“He’s calm most of the time, which is kind of all you can ask for in the late stages, that he’s calm, content and happy and feels a lot of love in his life. Because he has aphasia, he can’t really communicate very well. He doesn’t really understand anything that anyone tells him anymore and he can’t communicate with us very well. But he understands body language and sometimes very small words.”
