WWE Rumors: Top Rumors Heading Into ‘Extreme Rules’ — Big Debuts And A Huge Heel Turn
On Sunday night, WWE will present Extreme Rules and it’s the one night out of the year that just about anything and everything goes. Roman Reigns hopes to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Title against AJ Styles. All other titles are on the line as well. It’s going to be a night that brings forth a lot of chaos, but there are plenty of rumors swirling around too and that means there could be some huge surprises and big debuts.
The full card of matches is pretty good on paper, and some of the stipulations may very well make Extreme Rules a great event. Still, there is always the possibility that something unexpected and shocking could happen. Here are the top rumors going around as the pay-per-view (PPV) arrives.
Roman Reigns will retain the WWE World Heavyweight Title
AJ Styles may have said this past week that he would do “anything and everything it takes” to defeat Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules this Sunday. Styles being in two PPV main events in just his first four months in WWE is quite an impressive feat as it is, but he isn’t expected to win the WWE Title just yet.
There are still very big plans in place for Roman Reigns, and it’s not yet time for WWE to take the title off of him. He will likely hold onto it through the next few months and go into SummerSlam as the top guy in the company.Samoa Joe or Finn Balor will make their debut
Samoa Joe is going to defend his NXT Title against Finn Balor at NXT Takeover: Revenge on June 8, and they will battle it out in a steel cage match. What happens in that match will likely determine who gets called up first.
According to WWE Leaks, the betting odds for Extreme Rules bring about a couple of prop bets that show one of these two stars could debut on the main roster. As of Saturday, Samoa Joe is listed as a 14/1 shot of making his WWE debut while Finn Balor is a 9/4 shot.
There will be interference in the WWE Women’s Title Match
Charlotte will be without Ric Flair when she faces Natalya at Extreme Rules, and that means she will have to do everything on her own. Even though he is banned from ringside, she may get some help in the form of Dana Brooke.
With Emma having surgery this past week and having to be sidelined for months, the team of “EnD” was thought to have to take a bit of a break. Well, maybe not. Sportskeeda is reporting that Eva Marie could end up taking Emma’s place for now and team up with Dana Brooke to keep “EnD” going. It’s quite possible they could assist Charlotte and help her retain the title against Natalya.

The Asylum Match will see one major and insane spot
There is no escape out the door or over the top of the cage in the Asylum Match, and all of that will be happening for the first time ever in WWE. Not only will Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho be surrounded by a cage, but there will be all kinds of weapons hanging around and it could lead to one incredibly insane spot.
What Culture is reporting that it is highly expected the match will feature one very memorable spot which could be a big fall or someone hanging upside-down or any kind of iconic image. As Dean Ambrose continues to climb the WWE ladder to the top, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him do something off-the-wall to stand out.The Club will turn on AJ Styles
This particular rumor could play into the speculation that Finn Balor is going to make his WWE main roster debut at Extreme Rules. Even if “The Demon” doesn’t show up, all signs are pointing to AJ Styles not walking out of the PPV with his new stablemates watching his back any longer.
Most everyone thinks that the heel turn is coming, and The National feels that Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows will indeed turn their backs on AJ Styles. This will lead to Reigns retaining his title and the eventual main roster debut of Finn Balor to become the true leader of The Club.
Currently, the final card for Extreme Rules is as follows:
- WWE World Heavyweight Title: Roman Reigns (c) vs. AJ Styles – Extreme Rules
- WWE Women’s Title: Charlotte (c) vs. Natalya – Submission Match
- United States Title: Kalisto (c) vs. Rusev
- WWE Tag Team Titles: The New Day (c) vs. The Vaudevillains
- Intercontinental Title: The Miz (c) vs. Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens
- Asylum Match: Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose
- Texas Tornado Match: The Club (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) vs. The Usos
- Kickoff Show – NO DQ Match: Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin
There are so many things rumored to happen at Extreme Rules, but many feel as if there won’t be a lot of surprises. It’s rather understood that this will be the end of the first half of the year and make way for new feuds and a fresh start to the summer. Finn Balor or Samoa Joe may not make their WWE main roster debuts, but it’s more likely that a heel turn or title change could take place to set up their debuting very soon.
