Katy Perry, John Mayer Split Up Before They Really Even Got Started

Well, that was quick. Gossip sites are reporting that Katy Perry and John Mayer, who have been fueling speculation that they are dating with public appearances together in recent weeks, have decided to call off their relationship. The notorious Lothario strikes again.

Since all of the “facts” surrounding the relationship have come from unconfirmed reports and anonymous sources within the celerity gossip world, it’s hard to say exactly what went wrong between Katy Perry and John Mayer. Still, with Mayer’s “hit it and quit it” reputation, it’s hard to argue that no one saw this coming, despite reports that Mayer had promised he was a “changed man.”

“She’s really upset about it,” A source told Us Weekly. “She is making it seem like it wasn’t serious with John, but she is hurt,” said another.

Earlier in the month, a friend had said that Perry was considering a serious relationship with Mayer. “She doesn’t want to get her heart broken again, but she feels a real connection and wants to see where things go” with Mayer, who boasts a trail of famous exes including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston.

Still, some sources contend that the two were merely having fun, and while Perry is sad that it’s over, it’s not exactly the lost love of the ages. “They’ll end up as friends,” the source told People. “They were honestly having fun. People made it out to be far more than it was.”
