There comes a time when all men must yield to one thing, and that is time. While we all try to fight it these days with 40 being the new 30 and so on, the average person only has so long before they have to call it quits in their chosen profession. Some, like WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, have been heavily against any form of “retirement.” However, he has trained his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, and her husband, pro-wrestling legend Triple H, into becoming the next leaders of the WWE.
Many have wondered when the company will finally put the two in charge, as they have both served as major players behind the scenes for years now. Stephanie McMahon alone has been part of WWE’s creative team for over a decade, and is now helping WWE is various places. Meanwhile Triple H controls all of talent relations and seems to be wanting to give fans what they want storyline wise most of the time. The thought was that Vince McMahon may eventually step aside and work as more of an adviser eventually, and also remain on WWE’s board of directors on top of being the majority owner of the company.
No one knew when this was going to happen however as Vince has been coy about stepping aside in any way. Now, it looks like that could be happening sooner than we all think. According to PWInsider, Stephanie McMahon is currently working on her memoir. It is already set to include something about Randy Savage and the rumors about the two of them, making it an interesting read. It is expected to be released this September, which is a pretty big deal.
It is said that the book will be big news over the next few months and WWE is really hoping to put the spotlight behind the Billion Dollar Princess and get her out in the general public a lot more. The plan behind this is that WWE wants Stephanie to have a relationship with the audience. The theory is that if she can do this well, whenever Vince McMahon steps down, she will end up being seen as the heir apparent for the position as WWE boss that she has been groomed for over the span of a decade now.
The book is expected to be a huge part of that goal and publisher Regan Arts is currently planning a marketing campaign for the release of the book, including a variety of media appearances and booking signings.
Some theorize that this could be WWE’s way of beginning to push Vince McMahon to the side more. While he is not expected to leave his position in the WWE anytime soon, the thought is that WWE is not putting Stephanie McMahon in the public more this soon just to give her publicity for a small bit of time. People see her every week on television, so she has plenty of presence in the media already. She is also seen on programming for other shows connected to the NBC Universal world.
It is not as if she is never seen here. That being said, it should go without saying that WWE is putting extra attention on her because they most likely plan to give her more power in the company sooner rather than later. With Vince McMahon being 70-years-old, the thought is that he will eventually move to the side simply because the company will need him to do so. That does not mean he won’t still have a say, but he simply just won’t be running things like he does now. He may give things up slowly, but giving anything up is a pretty big deal.
Stephanie McMahon is currently WWE’s Chief Brand Officer, and has held the position since 2013 after being an Executive Vice President of Creative Development and Operations since 2007. She has a Communications Degree from Boston University, which has allowed her to be a huge voice for WWE over the years. She currently sits on WWE’s Board of Directors with husband Triple H. All in all, she has been working for the WWE full time since 1998, longer than most in major positions for the company now.
When we speak of qualified, she is the only person in the company that even comes close to being worthy of taking over. She’s the boss’ daughter and everyone knows she’s the logical choice to run the WWE. While her brother, Shane McMahon, clearly comes to mind as qualified, WWE’s plan has been for Stephanie to take over for some time now. It is very possible Shane returns to a major role in WWE one day, but he apparently does not want to for now, which removes him from the running. Although Vince has used Shane to push Stephanie a bit as of late.
It seems that this book tour will surely mean more than any of us realize for now. Do not be surprised if Stephanie McMahon gets a promotion during all of this. Whether or not that is to a major role like WWE President or Chairman is unknown, but it wouldn’t be out of the question to see such things if WWE wants to begin to put her in charge more. It will be interesting to see what comes from this in the coming months.
