‘NCIS’ Head Talks The Departure Of DiNozzo And Ziva’s Fate — Everything May Not Be As It Seems

Tuesday night brought forth the end of an era, as it was the last time that Special Agent Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) would be a part of NCIS. CBS really delivered a great season finale and final farewell for one of the originals of the series. There was a lot revealed in the episode, and it brought forth a lot of answers that many have wanted for so long. Still, it also presented a number of questions, as things may not be exactly as they seem.

Please know that there are spoilers from this point forward for the season finale of NCIS and what may happen in the future. If you have not yet seen the episode, please stop reading now.

When DiNozzo told Gibbs that he was going to be leaving the service, it wasn’t really a shocker as fans knew that time was coming. That didn’t make it any easier to take, though, and it was hard to watch the conversation between him and his head-slapping boss.

It was soon revealed that Trent Kort had bombed the place where Ziva David was staying, but there were reports of a survivor. Upon heading to Israel to search for the survivor, news from Mossad has arrived that Ziva was killed in the blast. Ziva is dead.

Soon after this news drops, Tony finds out that the survivor of Kort’s attack is a young girl by the name of Tali. Not only is she the daughter of Ziva David, but DiNozzo is actually her father.

With this new revelation and the complete change in DiNozzo’s life, he is done with NCIS and must take Tali to Israel to search for answers. After that, they are heading to Paris because “Ziva loves Paris” as Tony so eloquently puts it.

Now, that line is extremely important because it could be a bit of foreshadowing.

TV Line caught up with NCIS showrunner Gary Glasberg to speak about the season finale, DiNozzo’s departure, and the future of the show. One of the main things discussed is how Cote de Pablo did not actually return for the final episode of the season and Ziva David wasn’t actually seen.

Ducky did reveal that no remains were found at the blast site and Tony used the present tense when talking about Ziva’s love for Paris. It’s brought about the theory that Ziva may actually still be alive, but is she?

“Again, we put tremendous time into choosing some of the dialogue Tony says. I would say to stick with, ‘You gotta believe what you gotta believe!'”

That sounds incredibly promising, but NCIS fans also know not to get their hopes up until something actually happens. Glasberg could already be planning for a sweeps storyline or even a couple of seasons into the future.

Tuesday night may have been the last time that Special Agent Tony DiNozzo will ever be seen on NCIS, but the door is indeed open. He will likely be name-dropped and referenced and the team will have to learn how to move on without him.

Still, fans will be hopeful that one day, they will be able to see TiVa (Tony and Ziva) happy and together with their daughter.

Tony DiNozzo’s departure from NCIS is going to change the entire makeup of one of CBS’ most popular TV series ever. It’s not known if Michael Weatherly will ever return again, but the door was indeed left open for that possibility. Taking things a step further, it isn’t even entirely confirmed that Ziva has perished so who knows what could happen in the future? NCIS has never been one to disappoint, and it likely won’t start now.
