‘Rogue One’ Spoilers Reveal New Ships, New Characters, And More On A Returning Villain

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Following an accidental leak, the internet is buzzing with new spoilers concerning the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which will see a December release in theaters. While Star Wars fans are scrambling to learn as much as they can, while the information still exists, Disney is scouring the internet like an Imperial probe, seeking to destroy as many Rogue One leaks as possible. While most of the Rogue One images have been scrubbed from the internet at Disney’s request, Star Wars secrets, much like Death Star plans, still remain hidden in the aftermath of the leak.

Rogue One Will Feature Darth Vader And A New Star Wars Droid Villain

It has previously been revealed that the Darth Vader character will return in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story with Spencer Wilding stepping into the iconic suit and James Earl Jones returning to the franchise to voice Vader once again. It has also been revealed that a new suit for Darth Vader is being designed and will very closely resemble the suit and helmet from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The recent leak of what Disney has described as a “visual story guide” confirms the return of Darth Vader. In fact, one of the leaked pictures showed Vader’s grand, menacing helmet superimposed over images of rebel and imperial soldiers, leading many to expect Darth Vader to play a major role in the Rogue One story.

Meanwhile, a new droid villain has also made a first appearance. K-250, an enforcer droid to be played by Alan Tudyk (Frozen, Serenity), has been created specifically for Rogue One and will constitute a new addition to the Star Wars canon. K-250 seems to be a hybrid of a B2 battle droid and the uniform of a classic stormtrooper, though some alterations have been made, such as thicker, reinforced hips. The improvements on the design for Rogue One indicate that K-250 can jump and run, making him more useful as a predator. The head resembles the EV-9d9 droid but redesigned to have a sleeker appearance with humanoid eyes.

Leaks concerning this new Star Wars droid place it in the hands or on the side of the rebels. This fact would indicate that either K-250 has been given free will or he is able to be easily reprogrammed.

Other Leaks Reveal Some Exciting New Ships And Characters

Almost more thrilling than the characters in the Star Wars universe are the ships and weapons created for the franchise and each new addition to the franchise often brings with it a new ship or two. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is no different in that respect, and it seems each side is getting a newly crafted ship to enhance their respective fleet. For the rebel alliance, the U-wing fighter will be the ship of the day, while Star Wars fans can expect to see Rogue One villains soaring around the galaxy in TIE Striker ships.

Speaking of Rogue One characters, the cast of actors and their respective roles has filled out a great deal, thanks in part to that recent Rogue One leak. Previously, only Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Mads Mikkelsen as Jyn’s unnamed father, and, of course, Spencer Wilding and James Earl Jones as Darth Vader had been known, but that cast has been fleshed out with a more extensive list of characters that gives a greater sense of the Rogue One plot.

  • Ben Mendelssohn – Imperial Director Krennic
  • Diego Luna – Rebel officer Captain Cassian Andor
  • Riz Ahmed – Rebel soldier Bodhi
  • Jiang Wen – gun for hire Baze
  • Donnie Yen – Chirrut
  • Jonathan Aris – Senator Jebel

Additionally, there has been a casting call to fill the roles of two warriors named Pao and Bistan. There’s no word on which side Pao and Bistan will be fighting for, and although it has been revealed that they will be aliens, there’s nothing more on the characters at this time.

Although Forest Whitaker is featured prominently in the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer, nothing has been revealed about his character. Even the name of Whitaker’s character remains shrouded in mystery.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is scheduled for a December 16 theatrical premiere.
