‘Game Of Thrones’: Fans ‘Ship’ Brienne And Tormund After Their Encounter In Episode 4

Game of Thrones, relationships come and go with many fans “shipping” their favorite ones as they go along. However, Episode 4 of Season 6 just threw a new boat into the mix, and it was a complete surprise.

Episode 4 of HBO’s Game of Thrones Season 6 saw two very brief moments between Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) and the wildling, Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju), that has created a stir among fans. The first instance was when Tormund laid eyes on Brienne as she entered Castle Black with Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner).

If that isn’t instant storybook love, I don’t know what is. Tormund seems completely smitten by Brienne. But does Brienne even notice him? Not a chance, she has Sansa to worry about after all. But, later on, there is another moment while everyone is gathered around the table at Castle Black. Brienne certainly notices Tormund then. Although, it seems the attraction is not mutual.

And so the couple was instantly shipped by many fans. In the Game of Thrones universe, shipping Brienne and Tormund might end in heartache. Who am I kidding, it will most likely end in heartache. But in the meantime, there are loads of fans out there hoping against all hope that Brienne and Tormund will get their happily ever after.

After all, both Brienne and Tormund have had their share of misery in Game of Thrones. Tormund was present when his leader and longtime friend, Mance Rayder (Ciarán Hinds) was ordered to be executed by Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane). He then had to kill his ally, The Lord of Bones (Ross O’Hennessy), when he refused to side with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Castle Black. After that, he witnessed multiple friends and allies killed at the battle of Hardhome.

For Brienne, she has had an uphill battle to become a knight due to the fact she was a woman but was eventually awarded Kingsguard by King Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony) shortly before he was killed. She then vowed to protect Lady Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), who also wound up dead. Now, after having to track down Sansa Stark, she has pledged her allegiance to her. Hopefully, third time is the charm and Sansa survives, giving Brienne some much needed down time since Brienne’s whole story so far in Game of Thrones has been one of fierce battles without any sort of romantic breaks. Could Season 6 be her time for a little loving on the side?

As yet, there has been no fan fiction uploaded to FanFiction.net involving Brienne and Tormund, but you can bet there are already plenty of writers out there burning the midnight oil in order to be the very first to post their Brienne and Tormund fanfic. And, once this is the case, does it really matter if Brienne and Tormund do not get their happy ending on Game of Thrones?
