Robert Griffin III: Why He Will Become A Star With Cleveland Browns

Robert Griffin III signed with the Cleveland Browns this offseason in hopes of getting his career back on track. The last couple of seasons with the Washington Redskins were an absolute nightmare, to say the least, but he is ready to put that chapter of his career behind him.

Why are there reasons for the Browns’ fan base to believe that Griffin will be able to turn his career around and break out as the answer for Cleveland at the quarterback position?

First of all, simply looking at his numbers there is no reason for fans to think that his skill is anything less than that of a starting NFL quarterback. Injuries have been the issue throughout Griffin’s young career. He has been unable to stay on the field consistently, which has stunted his growth.

Throughout the 37 career games that Griffin has played, he has completed 63.9 percent of his pass attempts for 8,097 yards, 40 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. He has also racked up 1,480 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

At 26-years-old, there is still plenty of time for Griffin to figure out his health issues. He had a full season to watch and learn from the sidelines last year that will help him in the long run. A year of rest will also help Griffin come back fully healthy without any concerns of lingering injuries.

Cleveland won’t be asking Griffin to be a reckless quarterback. They need Griffin to pick and choose when to make plays with his legs and learn when and how to slide effectively.

Looking closer at the Browns’ projected offense, there are reasons for Griffin to be excited about his new team.

Corey Coleman was Cleveland’s first round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and will be a major threat. He possesses top-notch speed and has impressive hands and athleticism as well. There is no doubt that he will be the Browns’ top option this season for Griffin, although there is still a chance that Josh Gordon is able to return to the field.

Gordon would be a huge addition to the Browns’ offense if he is reinstated and kept. He is one of the top deep threats in the NFL when he stays out of trouble.

Brian Hartline, Rashard Higgins, and Terrelle Pryor are all going to be solid targets for Griffin as well.

Duke Johnson, Jr. and Isaiah Crowell will be the dual-threat running back tandem for the Browns. They aren’t ideal, but they can make some things happen for the Browns moving forward.

Griffin didn’t have as many weapons with the Redskins as he will have with the Browns. He will still have to deal with an offensive line that could use work, but the situation is much better all-around fit for him. Cleveland knew what they were getting themselves into when they signed Griffin and they did as much as possible to give him the best supporting cast that they could.

All of that being said, Griffin will have every opportunity to prove himself worthy of an NFL starting job. This could very well be the last chance that he will get to prove his worth.

Expect to see him come out playing like he has nothing to lose. Looking at the tape, he has shown a very strong and, at times, accurate arm. If he can improve his consistency, Griffin stands a very good chance to turn his career around with the Browns in 2016.
