Kesha Declares She’s Taking Her Life Back After Court Battle And Eating Disorder
Kesha is ready to take her life back. Us Weekly reports that the “Timber” singer opened up about her life in a long Instagram post on Sunday, May 15.
Kesha posted what looked like a topless photo of her, with arms held high and her middle fingers raised. It’s the caption of the photo that really reveals her state of mind.
“I have been battling depression and an eating disorder for a while now. my career is in a strange place and it feels like I’m fighting an uphill fight some days. but I have decided to take my life back. my freedom. my happiness. my voice. my worth,” Kesha, 29, wrote.
Kesha has been going through a lot of challenges in the last couple of years. The singer has been fighting a long court battle to disentangle herself from her contract with her former producer, Dr. Luke. In the lawsuit, Kesha claims that Dr. Luke raped her.
Billboard reported back in 2014 that the Kesha lawsuit detailed a long list of abuses that Dr. Luke allegedly committed in addition to the rape. The sex crimes got the most public attention, but Kesha also claimed that the producer also forced her into “one-sided, long-term contracts” that made it difficult for her to gain “any meaningful profit from her work due to Dr. Luke’s exploitation of her over the last decade.” The lawsuit also claimed that Dr. Luke refused to renegotiate Kesha’s contract and that by insulting her looks and talent, he used emotional abuse to manipulate her.

Her struggles with an eating disorder have also been reported before. According to Us Weekly, Kesha checked into rehab for an eating disorder at the beginning of the year.
But Kesha had some fighting words for body-shamers in her lengthy Instagram post over the weekend.
“I will not just f–king be quiet and hide. today I will say f–k it and live. So F–K it,” she wrote. “today I’m making that choice. AND IM HAPPY AS A DAMN CLAM. and also a big ol f–k u if u wanna hate on my body. just remember that makes u look like a d–khead.”
This isn’t the fist time Kesha has spoken out about the unrealistic beauty expectations women have to deal with.
“The music industry has set unrealistic expectations for what a body is supposed to look like, and I started becoming overly critical of my own body because of that,” she said in an interview with Elle U.K. in March. “I felt like people were always lurking, trying to take pictures of me with the intention of putting them up online or printing them in magazines and making me look terrible.”
Kesha also hit back at body shamers in an Instagram post in March, claiming that she’s “not a slave to perfection right now,” NME reports.
Kesha isn’t just talking about taking back her life — she’s taking action too. According to NME, she’s going on tour with Diplo’s “Mad Decent Block Party” this summer. This will be the singer’s first tour since her court battle started with Luke.

As for her court case, it’s still ongoing after New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich decided that Kesha could not be released from her contract with Sony, Us Weekly reports.
“Sony has made it possible for Kesha to record without any connection, involvement or interaction with Luke whatsoever, but Sony is not in a position to terminate the contractual relationship between Luke and Kesha,” Scott A. Edelman, an attorney for Sony, told the New York Times after the judgment was handed down. “Sony is doing everything it can to support the artist in these circumstances, but is legally unable to terminate the contract to which it is not a party.”
