‘Lost’ Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Joins ‘Thor’ Cast

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has been cast as one of the lead villains in Thor: The Dark World, Variety reports. He will play the dual roles of Kurse and Algrim the Strong.

In the original comics, Algrim the Strong was the most powerful of a race of Dark Elves and was coerced into fighting Thor by Dark Elf ruler Malekith. Malekith betrays Algrim during the fight, and he falls into a pit of lava, which causes him to develop amnesia. Although he has lost all of memories, Algrim is still bent on getting his revenge against Thor. He is healed by the Beyonder, who transforms him into Kurse, a being twice as strong as Thor.

Whether the film will follow this storyline is unknown at the moment, but comic book films rarely follow the source material to the letter, so director Alan Taylor may take a different approach with Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s character.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje has a number of film and television credits, most recently appearing in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Killer Elite. He is probably best known for his roles as Mr. Eko on Lost and Simon Adebisi on Oz.

In other Thor casting news, Deadline reports that 2 Broke Girls actress Kat Dennings will have an expanded role in the film’s sequel. Dennings had a small role as Darcy Lewis, a co-worker of Natalie Portman’s scientist and Thor love interest Jane Foster, in the 2011 film.

Thor: The Dark World is set to be released November 8, 2013. Shooting for the sequel is currently taking place in London.
