NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant Leaving Oklahoma City Thunder For San Antonio Spurs

NBA rumors have started swirling around Kevin Durant. The 27-year-old small forward is set to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming summer. There’s a strong belief that Durant will be taking his talent elsewhere, leaving behind superstar guard Russell Westbrook. A majority of the National Basketball Association teams will be trying to sign the former Texas Longhorns star. According to FanSided, the San Antonio Spurs will be making a run at the former MVP during free agency this summer.

The best team in the NBA right now is the Golden State Warriors. Stephen Curry and his teammates are taking the National Basketball Association by storm. Their dominance has been compared to what Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls did during the 1990s. With the salary cap rising to $92 million next summer, the Warriors will have enough money to sign Kevin Durant this summer if he leaves the Oklahoma City Thunder. Many fans in the NBA will be going crazy because Golden State will have one of the best rosters in the league.

Many of the same fans will be going crazy if the second best team in the NBA signs Kevin Durant. Believe it or not, the San Antonio Spurs can actually clear enough cap space to acquire the former Texas Longhorns star. The combination of Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Durant would be one of the best trios in the National Basketball Association. They would be surrounded by one of the best supporting cast in the league. The Spurs would have Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobili that would make the team the most dominate force in the NBA.

The San Antonio Spurs have two of the most valuable players in their rotation: Danny Green and Boris Diaw. Green is the Spurs starting shooting guard and is one of the better three-and-d players in the NBA. Diaw is a versatile veteran who can play multiple positions and do multiple things on the court. However, if San Antonio has the opportunity to sign a superstar like Kevin Durant, then it could be worth the risk to attempt to sign the former MVP.

If the San Antonio Spurs were to acquire Kevin Durant, then their starting lineup would be an amazing one. Tony Parker would start at point guard. The Spurs might need to find a replacement for Danny Green, if they were to trade him. It would just be someone who can play and hit the three point shots. Durant would have to shift to power forward, while LaMarcus Aldridge would shift to center.

Tim Duncan symbolizes the unselfish nature of the San Antonio Spurs franchise. He was taught that from the first day he joined the NBA by David Robinson. The Admiral was the franchise player at the time, and he gladly stepped aside so that Duncan could get the spotlight. If Kevin Durant were to sign with the Spurs, then it wouldn’t be shocking to anyone that Duncan would offer to come off the bench. That would allow Kawhi Leonard, Durant, and LaMarcus Aldridge to take San Antonio into the new era.

Kevin Durant will have plenty of options this summer during free agency. One option for him is that he could stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He and Russell Westbrook form one of the best duos in the entire NBA. Another option for the former Texas Longhorns star could be where he teams up with his former teammate, James Harden, in Houston. The Houston Rockets are in need of another superstar to play alongside Harden.

This will be a pivotal summer for Kevin Durant. He is currently downplaying it for now, but he’s going to be making one of the most important decisions of his NBA career. It should be interesting to see which team Durant will join.
