Donald Trump Running Mate Rumors: Could He Pick Newt Gingrich?
Now that he has locked up the nomination, Donald Trump running mate rumors abound. It seems to be a political journalist’s favorite pastime to speculate who a potential candidate might pick to be his second in command.
Trump has turned a lot of heads during this political season, primarily because of his extreme, unorthodox style. Indeed, there are many things he has said that a normal candidate would have to eventually end their race over. However, Donald Trump has capitalized on something. He has capitalized on the anger, vitriol, and abandonment many feel from both parties. That’s right, both of them are at fault.
The Democrats attempt to proffer more and more ridiculously liberal ideals, and the Republican party simply goes along with it. This is why Donald Trump has been so successful, and this is why the first thing you need to understand in the Donald Trump running mate debate is that the Donald would do well to pick an experienced Washington insider to be his vice president.
Say what? A good Donald Trump running mate would be an insider? Yes, indeed! The reason is simple, really. Donald Trump is a shrewd mind, and he is smart to realize he is an outsider in this game. Although he understands the cutthroat business of real estate development within the Big Apple, he is a newcomer to the bloodsport of politics.
In order for Trump to truly keep his promise to “Make America Great Again,” he will have to have a seasoned hand such as Newt Gingrich in order to help him pass the laws and set policy for his presidential term. The beauty of Trump picking Gingrich to be his vice president would be literally the best of both worlds. To start with, Gingrich has the political connections Trump needs in order to make an effective run at the White House and take on Hillary Clinton. Second, Newt Gingrich has long established himself for being his own man.
Gingrich would fit well as the Donald Trump running mate for other reasons as well. First of all, the men are said to have a good working relationship and have had known each for many years. In order for Donald Trump to be an effective leader, he is going to have to start by surrounding himself with qualified people. For a man such as Trump, the first, most crucial step is to be working with people he respects. That is the most crucial first step for a potential Trump administration, simply because the man will not tolerate incompetence.
During this campaign season, Trump insults and one-liners have literally become legendary, and the man has literally become famous for giving people a somewhat fitting label. He called Marco Rubio “Little Marco”; gave Jeb Bush the “low energy” designation; called Ted Cruz “lyin’ Ted;” and now has the name “Crooked Hillary” for Hillary Clinton, his likely general election opponent. Interestingly enough, he does not have a moniker for Newt Gingrich.
In a nutshell, if you are looking for a good Donald Trump running mate you really cannot do much better than Newt Gingrich. The man understands the ins and outs of Washington extremely after nearly a thirty-year career. Although there can be no question Donald Trump is definitely capable of being president simply because he has been in many leadership positions before, Newt Gingrich has the opportunity to become an extremely trusted Trump advisor and could perhaps even become the most powerful vice president since Dick Cheney if Trump is elected.
