Burger King Opens Its First Spa in Finland With Sauna, Swedish Massage And More [Video]
While its main competitor experiments with new burgers, Burger King has stepped things up by opening a full-service spa in Finland. Fast food fans can now shed their clothing in the sauna while tucking into their favorite Whopper meal.
As the Inquisitr recently reported, McDonald’s is currently experimenting with new burger offerings to try and increase business, trying out two new burgers, the “Grand Mac” and the “Mac Jr.,” along with all-you-can-eat fries. They are also experimenting with making their chicken nuggets preservative-free.
However, these new offerings are no competition whatsoever for the new Burger King Spa, which recently opened for business at the Mannerheimintie branch in Helsinki, Finland.
For anyone with the wherewithal to cough up around $283 for the three hour experience, this is something else. According to a report in the Metro, the Burger King spa is currently taking reservations.

It’s not just burgers and fries in Helsinki, as besides the 15-person sauna, there’s even a media lounge with a PlayStation 4 and a 55-inch TV in the sauna, as well as showers to freshen up after the experience. Of course, Fins enjoy a good sauna any day. However, “bare” in mind that the shower room has no stalls; thus, there is no privacy. And you have to take care not to get that burger wet.
There are also Swedish massages on offer and a locker room for guests’ convenience with some bright, Burger King-style towels.
On top of all this, the Burger King Spa has already won an award, by taking third place in Euromonitor’s 2016 New Concepts in Food Service contest.Euromonitor analyst, Elizabeth Friend, said in a statement that saunas in Finland “are taken frequently as social, health and wellness rituals, and it is not uncommon for friends and business associates to sauna together.”
Friend continued by saying in this way, Burger King’s in-store sauna “offers a powerful example of localization, demonstrating an understanding of local preferences while also offering customers the novelty experience of a sauna alongside their Whopper and fries.”
Reportedly, the Burger King Spa has been running for around for 6 months and is doing just fine.
In a Facebook post, Restel asks, “Do you want to experience something new and different? Welcome to the first fast food in the sauna!”
Reportedly, the premises were designed by interior designer Teuvo Loman and the spa is located in the Helsinki city center with the traditional Burger King restaurant open for ordinary fast food orders, too.
The New York Daily News says, “it’s a whopper of a bad idea.” But, is it? Considering that Finland suffers through a long and dark winter each year, what better place would there be to relax with a burger and fries while sweating out the tensions of the day?
On their official website, the Burger King Spa says the sauna is perfect for social gatherings and even for work, saying, “What could be more conducive to team building than enjoying Whopper meals as you sit side by side, your skin slick with sweat, in a steaming hot room?”
This isn’t the only original Burger King around in Finland, however, as according to the Restel website, back on February 29 the only floating Burger King restaurant opened on the Tallink Shuttle Ferry Star on the Tallinn-Helsinki route. Not only is it the largest Burger King in Finland, but it’s the first one for Estonia (the other end of the ferry ride) and definitely the first branch on the water.
Take that, McDonald’s. What are they going to come up with now, besides new burgers?
