The Vampire Diaries Season 7 finale is titled “Gods & Monsters.” Viewers have been busy speculating on what will happen with Bonnie Bennet, Caroline Forbes as well as Stefan and Damon Salvatore. After a sneak peek showed Damon saying Elena’s name, some TVD fans wondered if Nina Dobrev was returning. It doesn’t seem like the actress will appear, but one of The Vampire Diaries writers did speak about Elena’s name being mentioned. It is likely that Damon might have a “Delena delusion” due to the monster inside the Vault.
Bonnie’s storyline on TVD has taken a dark turn. Before, viewers were hoping her life would be saved. It was the one thing Damon wanted to do, even if she was angry with him. The Salvatore brother thought he found a way, but there was one small catch. Bonnie would get Rayna’s last life but would also become the new vampire huntress. Once she woke up, the character was determined to kill all of her friends, and she even marked Caroline for death.
Although Bonnie is obsessed with killing them all, her friends are determined to help. However, that is easier said than done, according to the press release from The CW network.

“THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE – Despite their best efforts to help Bonnie (Kat Graham) through the harrowing predicament she now faces, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Caroline (Candice King) realize their options are running out and drastic measures need to be taken. With their only chance of saving their friend lying inside the Armory, Stefan (Paul Wesley) breaks the news to Caroline that they may need help from an unlikely source – her and Alaric’s twin daughters,” Futon Critic wrote regarding the “ Gods & Monsters ” synopsis. “Elsewhere, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) keeps Bonnie preoccupied by bringing her back to their cabin but when his plan takes an unexpected turn, it’ll be up to Damon to make the ultimate sacrifice to save his closest friends.”
As seen in the extended promo and sneak peek clips for The Vampire Diaries Season 7 finale, Damon is still determined to save Bonnie. Even though Bonnie’s spell made the Vault impossible to enter, leave it up to Damon to find a way. The Salvatore brother doesn’t even have to use any supernatural methods, he just needs to create an explosion.
Damon’s plan is to find the preserved body of the final Everlasting. Even though the TVD characters thought killing it would also cause Bonnie to die, there is new information. On the phone with Damon, Stefan and Caroline, Enzo’s chat with a descendant of Rayna’s creators hints that killing the final Everlasting might be the only way to save Bonnie.

This is not all that was revealed, though. Damon enters the Vault and stunned, he whispers Elena’s name. However, is it really her? As previously speculated by The Inquisitr , the monster inside the Vault could be playing tricks on Damon. As seen in a recent episode of The Vampire Diaries , the entity used a loved one’s voice to lure someone in the Vault. It seems that Brian Young, co-executive producer and writer of the Season 7 finale, may have hinted this in an interview.
“At Damon’s core, his relationship with Elena is and always will be paramount to him,” Young teased to TV Guide about Damon Salvatore ‘s experience inside the Vault. “So Damon, while he’s willing to do anything for his friends, if he even hears a glimpse of what could be Elena, it changes his whole perspective on anything. As much as he wants to go out and live his life, that will always be part of him. If she’s in play, it changes his whole perspective.”
Notice how Young deliberately said, “hears a glimpse of what could be Elena.” The TVD Season 7 writer never mentioned anything about seeing Nina Dobrev’s character. It also teases that the voice doesn’t belong to Elena at all, but something else.
“It’s bad! It’s really bad,” Young said about what Damon finds in the Vault. “And it’s something that we’ve been teasing over the past couple of episodes and it’s something they’ll be dealing with in this episode and moving forward into the next season.”
As for Bonnie Bennett, the TVD co-executive producer and writer said the vampire huntress has not completely taken over. Bonnie is still fighting, but how much longer can she resist the urge to kill her vampire friends?
The Vampire Diaries Season 7 finale, titled “Gods & Monsters” will air May 13 on The CW.
