Justin Bieber Announces ‘Simpsons’ Gig On Twitter
According to a recent post on Justin Bieber’s Twitter account, the “Boyfriend” singer will be appearing on an upcoming episode of FOX’s long-running animated sitcom The Simpsons. The International Business Times reports that the news instantly sent his fans buzzing around the micro-blogging website, with many wondering when, precisely, the episode would air.
“Just did a voice over for ‘The Simpsons,’ ” Bieber posted, a comment that was accompanied by the hashtag #swaggy.
As the IBT pointed out, many of the singer’s fans may be a little clueless as to the overwhelming appeal of a show like The Simpsons, particularly since the program has been on the air longer than a lot of his fans have been alive. As someone who is rapidly approaching 35, I really don’t like to spend too much time thinking about things like this.
Matt Groening’s The Simpsons, America’s favorite dysfunctional family, began its life as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show. However, on December 17, 1989, the Simpson family starred in its first free-standing episode, which would ultimately serve as the start of its 23-season run. For those of us who grew up watching the show, it’s kind of amazing that the program is still on the air after all these years.
During its stint on FOX, The Simpsons has enjoyed a number of guest stars, many of which are professional musicians. Long before Bieber decided to pay a visit to Springfield, the town enjoyed appearances from David Byrne, James Taylor, Barry White, Paul McCartney, Robert Goulet, Britney Spears, and a host of different bands from a variety of different genres. It’s good to know that appearing on The Simpsons is still considered cool in the eyes of the younger generation.
Presently, it’s unknown when Justin Bieber’s episode will see the light of day. Considering the singer is such a big draw, my guess would be sometime around sweeps.
