‘Star Wars Battlefront 2’ Confirmed By EA
There will be a sequel to the popular Star Wars: Battlefront video game. EA recently confirmed via an earnings call that Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will be released next year.
The new Star Wars: Battlefront 2 game will have “bigger and better worlds” according to EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen. As reported by Todd Kenreck at Forbes, the new Star Wars game will come with features from the new movies, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: Rogue One. Those new features will include characters, maps, weapons and skins.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released in December, 2015, to rave reviews from both critics and fans. Rogue One is slated to be released in December, 2016, according to IMDb. The newest Star Wars release will be directed by Gareth Edwards and will feature a new protagonist in Jyn Erso, played by English actress Felicity Jones.
As reported at Forbes, Star Wars: Battlefront has shipped 14 million copies since it was released in November, 2015. With such a strong sales record, releasing a second game is a wise, and somewhat expected, move by EA. Additionally, as reported by Shaun Prescott at PC Gamer, EA plans to release a new Star Wars game in each of the next three to four years.
One of the primary reasons for releasing new versions of Star Wars: Battlefront is the inclusion of material from the new Star Wars movies. With so much more footage to choose from, the possibilities for creating new and exciting gaming experiences is greatly enhanced. This was confirmed by Jorgensen as reported by PC Gamer.
“Next year we’ll see Star Wars Battlefront back with bigger and better worlds, because we now have the new movies to work off [and] not just the historical movies that we used before.”
The release of Star Wars: Battlefront was focused on material largely from the first three releases of the Star Wars movies, episodes four, five, and six. Gamers could play on the ice planet Hoth from Empire Strikes Back or the forest moon of Endor from Return of the Jedi.

In Star Wars: Battlefront 2, you would likely be able to play extensively as Rey on the planet Takodana, or as Finn on the planet Jakku.
In addition to the Star Wars: Battlefront series by EA, there will be new Star Wars video games from different labels releasing in the not-too-distant future. As reported by Forbes, Visceral will be releasing a third-person Star Wars game in 2018. That game is being written by Amy Hennig, who is noted as one of the best video game writers in the business. Hennig wrote the very popular Uncharted series of games.
Respawn Entertainment will also be releasing a new Star Wars video game according to PC Gamer. It will be a third-person action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. Although more details have yet to be released, Respawn’s Stig Asmussen hinted at what should be expected from the new game.
“Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics. We have already planted the seeds by assembling a small, but incredibly talented team, ready for the amazing journey that lies ahead.”
With Disney planning to release one new Star Wars movie in each year, for the next six years, as reported by Dirk Libbey at Cinema Blend, there will be plenty of material to choose from in order to enhance new Star Wars video games.
