Sons of Anarchy is gearing up for a highly anticipated reunion at the end of May. Four cast members from the hit biker drama will reunite at Space City Comic Con for a special fundraising ride. With Charlie Hunnam confirming his appearance at the event, is there a chance he will reprise his role as Jax Teller in the new spin-off?
According to Movie News Guide , Hunnam will join Kim Coates (Alexander “Tig” Trager), Tommy Flanagan (Filip “Chibs” Telford), and Mark Boone Junior (Robert “Bobby Elvis” Munson) in Houston. The Sons of Anarchy stars are reuniting to raise money for One Heart Source.
In a video posted on Twitter , Coates revealed which Sons of Anarchy characters would make an appearance during the event. Along with watching the actors ride together, fans will get the opportunity to take photos and get autographs from the actors, who are set to appear for three days.
At the same time, there is a chance that Kurt Sutter and wife Katey Sagal will also make an appearance at the event in Texas. Although their schedule might prevent them from attending all three days, fans hope for a brief showing from the creator and his wife who played ruthless Gemma Teller for all seven seasons.
“It’s not a bad thing; we’ve talked to them. They’ve said ‘yes’ they want to come; they’re excited,” George Comits, the event promoter, explained to the Houston Press . “Their problem is that they’re scouting locations for their new series, they don’t know their schedule yet; their schedule changes day by day.”
Speaking of Sutter, the Sons of Anarchy creator is currently hard at work on the highly-anticipated spin-off. The new series will focus on the Mayans motorcycle club and will feature Emilio Rivera returning in his role as Marcus Alvarez.
“Mayans MC spinoff just got one step closer,” Sutter recently wrote on Twitter . “I’m very excited about this story. Dark and beautiful.”
With the spin-off taking place in the same world as Sons of Anarchy , there is a strong likelihood that some characters will have cameos in the new series. While fans are excited to see any of the SOA alum make an appearance, the biggest question is whether or not Hunnam will appear as Jax.
According to Vine Report , Sutter has expressed a desire for the new spin-off to be a show of its own without mixing too much with Sons of Anarchymythology. However, he has not ruled out a cross-over cameo or two, and there are several ways in which Hunnam could appear as Jax in the spin-off.
For starters, The Bit Bag is reporting that Hunnam could make a cameo if the spin-off is a prequel to the events in Sons of Anarchy . This would allow Sutter to incorporate Hunnam and other members of SAMCRO, especially considering how the two biker groups were rivals during this time period.
Secondly, Hunnam could reprise his role if the drama takes place at the same time as Sons of Anarchy . Sutter could write in a cameo or two by Hunnam without messing too much with everything that happened in the original series.
That being said, it is unclear when the Mayans spin-off will take place and what Sutter has in store for the series. Whether or not Hunnam makes an appearance is unknown, although it is clear that Sutter wants to focus on the Mayans and does not want to mess too much with the events in the original.
Whatever ends up happening between Hunnam and the new spin-off, fans can watch Hunnam back in action during the Space City Comic Con from May 27-29 in Houston, Texas.
