Ashe Olsen Meyers is the carefully chosen name of Seth Meyers brand-new baby son. Despite initially joking that the baby’s name was inspired by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Seth Meyers went on to explain the real reason behind his son’s name.
“We named our son Ashe, which is my wife’s maiden name.”
He went on to say that his wife Alexi delivered their son completely drug-free, and he also said that naming their son after his wife’s maiden name was a way of “honoring” what she had done.
As for the child’s middle name of Olson, Seth Meyers explained that this was his mother’s maiden name. He clearly meant a lot to him to be able to name his son after both his wife and his mother.
“To be able to name him after those two women…”
The trip to the hospital wasn’t as easy as it perhaps might have been, and it’s not because his wife was in a lot of pain at the time. But apparently the spectacle of Seth Meyers and his wife Alexi in the car on the way to the hospital looked a little like an abduction.
Seth Meyers spoke on the tedious journey to the hospital during his wife’s labor.
“It was hard to keep your cool because, one, obviously you wanted to get there in a hurry and two my wife was on her knees in the back seat holding onto me, we had to roll the window down because she was getting car sick and she was just screaming out an open window. Screaming.”
He went on to say that it’s “only in NYC” that you could drive that way and not have people thinking that the woman was being abducted.
Seth Meyers went on to joke that when they got to the hospital, the doctors told the Late Night with Seth Meyers host that his wife’s pupils were fully dilated.
The delivery was a drugless delivery, and Seth Meyers believes that his son’s birth is one of the most fantastic things that has ever happened to him. The emotions were so overwhelming for Meyers that he both cried and laughed once his son was brought into the world.
It’s very fitting, but his son was born on Easter Sunday, and Meyers reported that the hospital staff were wearing bunny ears. And on that same very Sunday, Parks and Recreation creator Michael Schur had some baby name ideas according to the Patriots website.
Michael suggested that Seth Meyers could consider naming his son “Brady Troy Ty Law Belichick Meyers,” which NFL fans would recognize contains the names of real-life Patriots. The prank is, of course, that Michael Schur is a Patriot span while Seth Meyers is a firm supporter of the Steelers.
“Seth Meyers got to meet some of his favorite NFL heroes, including legendary Steelers running back Jerome Bettis, at NFL Honors last week.”
According to Uinterview, a good friend of Seth, actor and comedian Tracy Morgan, gifted him with a lovely gift to celebrate the birth of Meyers’ son: a large bowl of condoms.
According to Salon, Seth Meyers recently paid homage to the late Garry Shandling on his show.
Although he never had the opportunity to meet Shandling in person, he said he heard that he was a great guy.
“You wanted to be friends with the guy who had the VHS tapes of The Larry Sanders Show, because none of us could afford HBO. We were lucky to have a VCR.”
Meyers recommended that “everyone go back and watch that show,” saying that if there is any good that can come out on the death of Garry Shandling, “it would be the rediscovery of what really, truly was a classic.”
