WWE Rumors, Spoilers: Huge Gimmick Match Set To Happen In NXT For The First Time Ever
Samoa Joe and Finn Balor have already had two brutal and intense battles in NXT with each superstar winning one match. Now, they are set to have a third battle, and it is going to take place at NXT Takeover in early June. There will be an added touch of brutality to this match, though, as rumors are swirling that it will be the first steel cage match in the history of NXT.
They faced off for the first time at NXT Takeover: Dallas, and it was one of the best matches during all of WrestleMania weekend. Finn Balor ended up winning the match and retaining his title, which he had held for quite a while.
Just about three weeks later, the two battled again at a NXT Live Event in Lowell, Massachusetts, where the outcome was different. As recapped by WWE.com, Samoa Joe was able to capture the NXT Title and end Balor’s record-breaking reign as champion.

Now, they’ve each won one match in the series and it’s time for a rubber match, but there is going to be a big difference at the upcoming NXT Takeover. According to Daily Wrestling News, the first steel cage match in the brand’s history will take place when Samoa Joe and Finn Balor step into the ring together again.
In the past, there have been a couple of ladder matches, but never a steel cage match. Actually, Finn Balor was involved in the last ladder match when he took on Kevin Owens last year, but this would be the first-ever cage match.
As you can see, NXT focuses a lot on the action and talent in the ring rather than gimmick matches.
WWE has confirmed that the match will take place and there will be a Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor III. What has not yet been confirmed is the fact that it will be a cage match, but it is expected to be announced in the next week or two.
Up until Joe won the title a couple of weeks ago, Balor had held on to it since July 4, 2015, and that added up to a record 292 days.It was expected that one of these two superstars were going to be called up to WWE’s main roster soon, but no-one had any idea who would be first. When Balor retained his title at NXT Takeover: Dallas, many thought that Samoa Joe would be called up.
A few weeks later, Joe won the NXT Title, and everyone thought Finn Balor would be called up to side with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows as WWE’s version of the Bullet Club. Now, there is a third match set up and a call-up may not happen for either athlete in the next month.
Depending on what happens at NXT Takeover, it could say a lot for whether it is Samoa Joe or Finn Balor who ends up on the WWE main roster next.
NXT Takeover will take place on June 8 at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. More matches are expected to be announced soon, but as of now, only the NXT Championship bout has been made official.
Finn Balor and Samoa Joe are two of the biggest names in all of wrestling, and they aren’t even on the main roster of WWE. Being where they are is not a step down, though, and they are getting plenty of focus and the attention they deserve. Putting the NXT Championship on the line and confining the two superstars in a steel cage is going to make the upcoming NXT Takeover one of the biggest events in the brand’s history.
