‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Star Charlie Hunnam To Join Cast Reunion In May, But Will He Return As Jax Teller In The Spin-Off?
Charlie Hunnam will reunite with his fellow Sons of Anarchy stars during the upcoming Space City Comic Con. The appearance marks the first time in over a year that Hunnam and the rest of the Sons of Anarchy cast have gathered together. The exciting reunion news follows Kurt Sutter’s announcement that his new Mayans motorcycle club spin-off is close to launching, sparking speculation about Hunnam’s future involvement in the new series.
According to Movie News Guide, Hunnam has committed to joining his fellow Sons of Anarchy alum during the Space City Comic Con in Houston. The event will take place at the end of May and will feature quite the exciting lineup of actors.
In addition to Hunnam, the majority of the show’s main cast will be present at the event. Mark Boone Jr. (Robert “Bobby” Munson), Tommy Flanagan (Chibs Telford), Kim Coates (Alexander “Tig” Trager), Ryan Hurst (Harry “Opie” Winston), Ron Perlman (Clay Morrow), Katey Sagal (Gemma Teller), and David Labrava (Happy Lowman) are all scheduled to appear.
The logistics of bringing together this many cast members was a difficult task for event organizers, especially considering the show ended back in 2014. In fact, International Business Times is reporting that the event’s promoter, George Comits, opened up about how creator Kurt Sutter may not be able to make it due to his busy schedule.“It’s not a bad thing; we’ve talked to them. They’ve said ‘yes’ they want to come; they’re excited. Their problem is that they’re scouting locations for their new series, they don’t know their schedule yet; their schedule changes day by day,” he explained. “When they know what they can offer us, they’ll tell us. It could be running in for the big panel on Saturday and leaving.”
As fans are well aware, Sutter is currently busy working on a Sons of Anarchy prequel and a spin-off. Of course, the fact that Hunnam is willing to come out and appear in public with other Sons of Anarchy alumni has led to speculation that a Jax Teller cameo is in the works.
Although Sutter has kept details to a minimum, it is known that the prequel will focus on the early days of SAMCRO. This includes exploring the relationships between the biker club’s founding members, namely Jax’s father, John Teller.
In contrast to the prequel, the spin-off series will center on the Mayans MC and is expected to take place in modern times. If Hunnam does make a cameo in one of the series, it will most likely be in the spin-off as the show is set to include some crossover with Sons of Anarchy characters.
While the fate of the prequel is unknown, Sutter recently shared some exciting news about the spin-off. In a post to Twitter, Sutter revealed that the Mayans spinoff was in the works and had passed an early phase of development.“Mayans MC spinoff just got one step closer. I’m very excited about this story. Dark and beautiful. #MayansMC,” Sutter wrote.
The biggest question surrounding the new series, however, is whether or not Hunnam will reprise his role as Jax. While that answer remains hidden, Hunnam’s career on the big screen is starting to really take off.
According to Deadline, Hunnam has already finished work on two upcoming films: Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Knights of the Roundtable and James Gray’s Lost City of Z with Twilight star Robert Pattinson. At the same time, Hunnam is currently negotiating to star in the remake of Steve McQueen’s 1973 film Papillon.
With so much work on his plate, it is unclear if Hunnam will have the time to work on Sutter’s new series. In the meantime, at least fans will be treated to one more appearance when Hunnam and the rest of the Sons of Anarchy cast make their way to Texas later this month.Tell us!
