G-Dragon And Taeyeon Dating? Korean Netizens Once Again Compare K-Pop Idols’ Instagram Accounts To Justify Relationship Rumors

Last year, rumors rampantly spread across social media that G-Dragon, the leader of Big Bang, and Taeyeon, the leader of Girls’ Generation, were in a relationship. According to numerous online social communities, G-Dragon ended his alleged relationship with Kiko Mizuhara while Taeyeon ended her relationship with Baekhyun of EXO so they could be together. They also say that Taeyeon reminds G-Dragon of his first crush, K-pop soloist BoA. Finally, the online social communities claimed that G-Dragon and Taeyeon have known each other for years.

The relationship rumor reached a point of notoriety that G-Dragon and Taeyeon’s respective labels, YG Entertainment and SM Entertainment, have come forth with official responses. The former took an apathetic approach claiming they had nothing to say while the latter said the relationship rumor to a piece of groundless information likening it to a fiction novel.

Despite official responses from both agencies representing G-Dragon and Taeyeon, Korean netizens cannot get enough of their alleged relationship. Now they are justifying that such a relationship between the two K-pop idols does exists by comparing their Instagram activity.

According to AllKpop, Korean netizens took to both G-Dragon and Taeyeon’s Instagram accounts to compare their recent posts as a means to justify their ongoing relationship. This is not just limited to their accounts, however, as they are also looking at similarities between their closest friends. For G-Dragon, that would be members of Big Bang and 2NE1. For Taeyeon, that would be members of Girls’ Generation and Red Velvet.

Nevertheless, the first set of Instagram posts up for speculation include a post on Tiffany’s Instagram featuring Taeyeon dancing to a song with the words “Work, Work, Work.” It is the same words and same song used when G-Dragon uploaded a post earlier on. As for something more recent, netizens took notice that G-Dragon and Taeyeon uploaded selfies using the same photo editor as shown below.

Finally, the last bit of justification is not from Instagram, but from numerous video cuts at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA 2015). From what is shown, there are numerous times G-Dragon and Taeyeon are caught looking at each other or trying hard not to look at each other that it was way too noticeable. And, as from previous times, Korean netizens are claiming both G-Dragon and Taeyeon are supposedly sporting the same couples rings on their fingers, too.

Korean netizens, as well as the K-pop community specifically V.I.P.’s (Big Bang’s fans) and Sones (Girls’ Generation’s fans), are going to believe what they want to believe and hear what they want to hear. It does seem from reactions that more and more people are siding with the possibility that G-Dragon and Taeyeon are indeed together. Fans actually provided the following comments, in which they cite the quantity of similar posts as the reason for the relationship.

“You can’t deny the constantly similar posts. Taeyeon was like this before too with you know who.”

“I’ve been hearing rumors about them ever since Taeyeon and Baekhyun broke up. I didn’t believe it then, but it must be true.”

Of course there are fans who are devoted to their dream relationships. Many still want Taeyeon and Baekhyun to still be together even though they broke up last year. As for G-Dragon, many truly believe he is in a relationship with Dara of 2NE1. As a matter of fact, the fandom for “Daragon” is probably the most aggressive when it comes to K-pop idol relationships in general.

Ultimately, the rumors of G-Dragon and Taeyeon being in a relationship are baseless, driven by fandom and happenstance. Until G-Dragon, Taeyeon, or their respective labels say otherwise, we can only consider their relationship to be nothing more than a rumor, one that many K-pop fans hope will be proven true.
