Ian Somerhalder Banned From Reuniting With Nina Dobrev On ‘The Vampire Diaries’ By Jealous Nikki Reed?

Fans have been dying for an on-screen reunion between Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev ever since she left The Vampire Diaries. Although Somerhalder has confirmed that Season 8 will be his last, reports indicate that his wife, Nikki Reed, has banned him from working with Dobrev if she were to return to the hit show.

According to KpopStarz, Reed has a history of banning Somerhalder from public interactions with his ex-girlfriend and former co-star. Back in 2015, Somerhalder and Dobrev were given a Teen Choice Award for Best Kiss. Typically, the winners of this award exchange a kiss onstage. However, Somerhalder did not attend the event, and Dobrev accepted the award on his behalf.

It now appears as though Reed has once again used her influence to prevent Dobrev from returning to The Vampire Diaries in Season 8. With the new season being Somerhalder’s last, this might be the only chance fans would get to see Dobrev and Somerhalder together again.

While Somerhalder’s exit has been confirmed, it is unclear if The Vampire Diaries will continue without him. According to MStars News, Somerhalder hinted that the show would end, though he later backtracked on his comments in a post to social media.

“Last weekend I talked to an audience at a Q&A about the end of #TVD and how excited I was to make what I believe – my last year – be as great as possible,” Somerhalder wrote on Twitter. “Somehow in my infinite wisdom and end-of-season foggy brain, I managed to make it sound like the show was coming to an end.”

With Ian Somerhalder leaving the show, many fans hoped that Dobrev would reprise her role one last time. After all, the show is not likely to continue without Somerhalder, especially considering that Dobrev is gone, and Kat Graham is also leaving.

Furthermore, the series has seen a large decline in ratings ever since Dobrev left. Not only has this led to rumors of cancellation, but The CW also decided to move the show from its normal Thursday night to the dreaded Friday night time slot. With the series struggling to attract viewers, there is a good chance that the upcoming season will be the last.

Unfortunately, if Season 8 marks the end, fans might not get to see a reunion between Somerhalder and Dobrev. That being said, neither party has officially addressed the matter. According to Parent Herald, an inside source recently revealed that Reed has no problems with Dobrev. In fact, the former Twilight star is not worried about Somerhalder potentially working with Dobrev in the coming season.

“The idea of Ian and Nina reuniting on screen for The Vampire Diaries doesn’t bother her one bit. She has no issues with this whatsoever.”

Of course, Somerhalder and Reed appear very happy and secure in their relationship. Not only is their marriage still going strong, but the two have decided to start a family together at some point in the near future. With their relationship going well, there is little wonder why Reed has no qualms about Somerhalder reuniting with Dobrev on the show.

That being said, just because Reed is okay with it, doesn’t mean a reunion is in order. After all, Dobrev is busy launching her career on the big screen and might not have a lot of time to return to the series. With so many uncertainties still lingering, there is no telling what the future holds for the hit show.

The seventh season of The Vampire Diaries is set to wrap on May 13 on The CW.
