WWE Rumors: One Former TNA World Champion Signs With WWE And Another Is Very Close
Ever since it was revealed that Bobby Roode and Eric Young were done with TNA, there were rumors of the two former World Champions heading to WWE. In early April, Roode was shown on camera at NXT Takeover: Dallas. This past week, Eric Young appeared on NXT and took on Samoa Joe in a really good match. Still, there hasn’t been much certainty with their status, but that is all about to change.
PW Insider is reporting that Bobby Roode has indeed signed a contract with WWE and will begin working with NXT soon. Apparently, there was word on Twitter that he was going to be working the U.K. tour dates for NXT in June.
That tweet had been sent out by the official WWE UK account on Twitter, but it was quickly deleted.
Word is that Bobby Roode was backstage at the last set of NXT tapings at Full Sail University in Florida. He never did appear on camera, but he was indeed there and it was to speak with Triple H, sign his contract with WWE, and become official. Now, while Roode hasn’t officially appeared for NXT as of yet but is signed, there is another former TNA World Champion who has done the opposite.
This past Wednesday night, Eric Young appeared out of nowhere on NXT and decided to challenge the NXT Champion Samoa Joe. Being the fighting champion that he is, Joe accepted and the two had a match later in the night that saw Young suffer a defeat.
At the NXT tapings, that was the only time that Eric Young had appeared, but it led many to think he had signed a deal with WWE. In reality, that wasn’t the case and he’s not yet officially a part of the company.Young recently did an interview with Niagara This Week where he promoted his appearance this Saturday night at House of Hardcore. He was also asked about his appearance in NXT, and about his current status with the company.
“It was in the works. I was supposed to go and talk with Hunter (WWE executive Paul Levesque). They reached out to me and there was an opportunity. Hunter and I hit it off right away, joking like we had known each other for 10 years. About half way through the day he called me aside to see if I’d be interested in doing a promo with the NXT champion Samoa Joe to start the show. I went and grabbed my stuff out of my rental and we got to business. The crowd reaction was insane. I figured it would be decent, but it was insane.”
As for a deal with WWE? Well, Young said that he hasn’t officially signed with the promotion as of yet, but they are “working on contract stuff now.”
The way things seem to be going, WWE is about two have two more former TNA World Champions under contract and working for the company. Austin Aries started earlier this year and Samoa Joe last year. AJ Styles hadn’t been with TNA in a few years, but he just made his main roster debut in January and is already chasing the WWE World Heavyweight Title.
So, as of now, Bobby Roode has signed with WWE and will soon be making his official debut in NXT. That’s the way it was done with Austin Aries, and it has worked out well so far. Eric Young made his debut with NXT, but hasn’t signed a deal yet. That was how it was done with James Storm, and he ended up going back to TNA. It’s doubtful that Triple H would allow that to happen again.
