‘Gilmore Girls’ Netflix Reboot — Fans Will Finally Learn Those Final 4 Words, Plus The Drama Behind Melissa McCarthy’s Return

It may have been long in the making, but Gilmore Girls is making a return to television this year. Netflix is officially rebooting the beloved series, and fans can expect plenty of surprises along the way. In fact, not only will the series finally reveal the mysterious final four words, but after some back and forth, Melissa McCarthy has finally agreed to be a part of the show.

According to Perez Hilton, it has officially been confirmed that the series will reveal the four words that were originally supposed to end the series. While fans have waited over eight years to learn the truth behind the words, Yanic Truesdale recently teased that she already knows the ending.

“I know them because I read the script! I always felt it was intriguing, like everyone else. I was like, ‘How does she know the last four words?'” Truesdale stated. “But when I read it, I was like, ‘Oh, OK. That makes sense.’ I can see now why she knew that that would be said.”

While this is certainly exciting news for fans, it might indicate that the reboot will be short-lived. So far, Netflix has plans for at least four new episodes, and fans can only hope that the series will continue well beyond that number.

Meanwhile, Us Magazine is reporting that Netflix has released the first on-set photos. One of the photos features a tender moment between Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) for a special mother-daughter moment.

Another photo is a major hint at what has become of Lorelai’s romance with Luke (Scott Patterson). Based on the images and how happy Lorelai appears alongside her daughter, it’s safe to assume that things worked out for the couple.

Gilmore Girls originally ran from 2000 to 2007. The new season will be comprised of four episodes that are 90 minutes long. The series will also see the return of Dean Forester (Jared Padalecki), Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry), and Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia).

In addition to the aforementioned cast, it now appears as though Melissa McCarthy is going to be a part of the reboot. According to USA Today, McCarthy originally turned down her role in the series but is now ready to make her way back to Stars Hollows and reprise her role as Sookie.

“Literally, about an hour and a half ago, we figured out that I’m going to go and do it, and I’m so excited,” McCarthy explained during an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ show. “[Series creator] Amy Sherman-Palladino is gonna squeeze me in to do it.”

This in an interesting development, especially after reports surfaced that McCarthy was involved in a feud with Sherman-Palladino. Although many suspected problems between the women were the source behind McCarthy’s original decision, Sherman-Palladino actually had to manipulate the filming schedule a lot to fit McCarthy in.

“We’ve just put it out in the universe: We’re here until May 10,” Sherman-Palladino shared. “I know what the scene is. I’ll pre-light it for her. She can drive up, run in, shoot it, and run out. I can get her in and out in two hours.”

Apart from the minor characters, Bustle is reporting that fans can expect the reboot to focus heavily on the three main women of the series: Lorelai, Rory, and Emily. After all, the story is all about how these women have grown up, and it would be a shame not to dive deeper into their complicated lives.

Netflix has yet to announce an official premiere date for the new season of Gilmore Girls. However, fans can expect the series to make its highly anticipated return at some point in 2016.
