The Real MVP: The Wanda Durant Story Lifetime Movie: Our Synopsis
After a single mother is left to raise two sons, she does everything possible to make sure they have a good and stable life. Drawing upon the strength of her own mother, Wanda Durant realizes that loving the boys won’t be enough. She’ll also need to discipline them consistently and keep them in a safe environment while making sacrifices of her own along the way.
It isn’t easy for this young mother to put food on the table, but through her constant prayers, she is always able to make a way. Soon, she begins to see the fruits of her labor, as her children shape up to be hard workers who are driven to succeed. One of her sons, Kevin, has become a basketball fanatic, prompting Wanda to push him to go after what he wants by making him run up hills and go to the gym. Before long, both Tony and Kevin have developed a work ethic that is hard to beat. It pays off after Wanda’s son, Tony, receives several basketball scholarships and eventually graduates from college. Meanwhile, Kevin is launched into the career of a lifetime as a professional NBA basketball player with Oklahoma City Thunder, allowing him the chance to give back to his mother. Wanda Durant is surprised when Kevin delivers a heartwarming speech dedicated to her after he is given the NBA Most Valuable Player Award.

Kevin Durant’s father left them when he was just a toddler but reconnected with his son when Kevin was about 13-years-old. His father, Wayne Pratt, made the following statement about why he left, according to the Washington Post.
“I felt like I was immature, selfish, I was young. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. But my sons helped me realize how important it was to be in their lives by always wanting me to be around.”
