Bethenny Frankel Prefers She And LuAnn De Lesseps Be ‘Fake Social Friends’
As two of the women who have remained on The Real Housewives of New York City ever since the first season, Bethenny Frankel and LuAnn de Lesseps have a long history with one another. Throughout their years together on the show, their friendship has gone through quite some ups and downs. So far on the latest eighth season, they have mostly gotten along. Yet on the latest episode that aired on Wednesday night, Bethenny admitted that she had an unresolved issue with LuAnn. After LuAnn gave her a belated birthday present at Ramona Singer’s birthday party, Bethenny told LuAnn that she didn’t like her behavior over the summer.
In her blog post, Bethenny explained that she hung out socially with LuAnn several times over the summer. Bethenny believes that LuAnn, embarrassed about her behavior over the summer, gave her the birthday gift as a way to suck up to her and to stop any possible criticism.
“For the record, I was at Luann’s for a 4th of July BBQ and one other time on her boat this summer. She did not adopt me nor are we ‘family’ as she bizarrely stated. A few instances occurred this summer that turned me off, and she was turning the gifts and the charm on here to cut me off at the pass. She knew what went down and was embarrassed and her buttering up worked on me.”
Does Bethenny foresee a genuine friendship with LuAnn in the future? Bethenny proclaimed in her blog that she would rather her and LuAnn just be “fake social friends.”
“I most enjoy when Luann and I are fake social friends. That is our proper speed. I bet she would agree. She acted poorly and desperately this summer on a few occasions, and it changed our friendship for me, and by now, definitely for her.”

Just exactly what did LuAnn do over the summer that turned Bethenny so off? Bethenny didn’t give any specific details in her blog. Did LuAnn drink too much and get too crazy?

In her own blog post, LuAnn didn’t really criticize Bethenny for talking about her behavior over the summer but simply stated that Bethenny was obviously still mad about something that happened at a party months ago. LuAnn explained that she ordered the purse for Bethenny months ago but it wasn’t ready in time for her birthday.
In the episode, during Ramona Singer’s birthday party, LuAnn de Lesseps sat down next to Bethenny Frankel and presented her with an expensive, engraved designer handbag as a belated birthday gift. LuAnn told Bethenny that the gift came from her heart, that she cares about her and that she’s like family to her. Bethenny thanked LuAnn for her sweet comment but then said that her behavior constantly changes. When LuAnn asked Bethenny to clarify, Bethenny brought up LuAnn’s behavior over the summer.
“Well, we’ve had a couple of moments this summer that you know about. The whole thing with Kyle, I didn’t like the way you acted with that. I didn’t like the way you spoke to me on text. Just hear me. I just felt like you were super aggressive with me. ‘Don’t be that girl. Don’t be uncool.'”
In their confessional interviews, Bethenny said that the gift felt out of place while LuAnn expressed incredulity that Bethenny criticized her after just receiving her birthday gift.
Despite Bethenny Frankel proclaiming that she prefers to be “fake social friends” with LuAnn de Lesseps, that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t care at all for LuAnn. Bethenny ended her The Real Housewives of New York City blog by stating that she genuinely wants LuAnn to be happy.
“I genuinely want her to be happy. She was looking for something this summer, and I hope she found it. Maybe one day we will be back on track. I have no animosity for her whatsoever.”
