‘Vikings’ Season 4: New Trailer Reveals Lagertha Survives, Plus, An Unlikely Alliance Between Rollo And Bjorn [Video]

The latest teaser video for History Channel’s Vikings Season 4 has arrived. Let’s break it down and make some predictions for what will happen in the second half of Season 2.

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information about Season 4 of History Channel’s Vikings. Also discussed is historical evidence in relation to the Vikings characters. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers, especially historically based spoilers.

First off in this Vikings video, Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) is talking to his son, Ivar the Boneless (Alex Andersen). He claims the whole world will not only know his name but fear him as well. If you delve into the history of the Vikings, this is indeed true.

And so it looks like History Channel will start to move the emphasis of Vikings from the established main characters to the newer generation. This is shown several times during the teaser video for Season 4. Not only does Ragnar look older, but so does Duke Rollo (Clive Standen) and King Ecbert (Linus Roache). Could this perhaps suggest a time jump bigger than first thought in the Season 4 mid-season finale?

Duke Rollo admits to his wife, Gisla (Morgane Polanski), that part of himself is still Viking, indicating the internal struggle that must be going on for the character who committed the ultimate betrayal to his own kind. However, it appears there is some sort of reconciliation between Rollo and his nephew, Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig), as the image below shows the pair of them side by side.

But what could cause this pair to reunite once more? If we look to history, one thing could possibly cause the two Vikings to join together in battle once more. According to the Viking sagas, Ragnar was defeated and killed by King Aelle (played by Ivan Kaye in the Vikings TV series). As a result of this, Rollo and Bjorn might reunite in order to defeat King Aelle in honor of Ragnar. This could also explain why he was telling Gisla he was still part-Viking. So does this mean Ragnar might die in the second half of Season 4 of Vikings? It looks like we will just have to wait and see.

And if you were wondering what happened to Lagertha in the mid-season finale of Vikings, have no fear, she is seen alive and well in the trailer. However, she does seem to have a run-in with Ragnar’s wife, Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland). The clip shows Aslaug carrying a sword and then reminding Lagertha that she is the queen of Kattegat. As the clip finishes, a female voice is heard saying, “There can only be one queen of Kattegat.” While it is likely this is a continuation of what Aslaug was saying to Lagertha, the voice actually sounds a little more like Lagertha’s. So, could Lagertha overthrow Aslaug and rule in Kattegat by the end of Season 4 of Vikings? Once more, only time will reveal all.

Other things to note include the fact that Floki seems to be unsure of who he actually is anymore and King Ecbert is reminding his son that they are in a time when they need to “hate.” Could Ecbert be invading Northumbria and is trying to get his son to remember that there are no friends when it comes to war? The final thing of interest is this person in what appears to be a chariot. Considering the shots prior to that are all of Ivar the Boneless, could it be him?
