‘Fear The Walking Dead’: Travis Meets A Familiar Face — Could It Be Someone From Season 1?
Episode 4 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead saw the core group split up. Episode 5 promises Travis Manawa will meet someone from his past in Connor’s group. So who will this person be?
SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information on Season 2 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid potential spoilers.
Episode 4 of Fear The Walking Dead saw Travis (Cliff Curtis) and his stepdaughter, Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), taken from the Abigail after a hostile takeover involving a group led by a man called Connor (Mark Kelly). Episode 5 will deal with how — or if — the core group will reunite. In the process of Travis boarding Connor’s vessel, it appears he will recognize someone already on board. Who will that person be?
The official synopsis for Episode 5 is as follows.
“Alicia works to reunite with her family. Travis meets a familiar face. Madison and Nick lead a charge to save their family against all odds.”
A “familiar face” could mean anyone in Fear The Walking Dead. It could be someone the audience will recognize along with Travis. Or, on the other hand, it might be someone from Travis’ past, someone that will either help Travis or will help the audience discover more about Travis’ backstory. Let’s have a look at just who this person might be.
Alex From Flight 462
Alex (Michelle Ang) or Jake (Brendan Meyer) seem like a very likely choice. After all, Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) cut their raft loose from the Abigail in Episode 3 of Fear The Walking Dead. So it is likely the vessel travelling towards the Abigail could have come across Alex and Jake.
Interesting to note is the fact that AMC says there is just one familiar face that Travis will encounter. Considering just how unwell Jake was when we last saw him, it is possible he is now dead. Alternatively, Jake could be somewhere else on the ship, being tended to. But considering the fact that Connor’s group are, essentially, pirates, that doesn’t seem very likely. Also, IMDb has Michelle Ang now listed as appearing in 12 episodes of Fear The Walking Dead while Brendan Meyer is still only listed as appearing in one episode.
Someone From Travis’ Past
Episode 4 of Fear The Walking Dead showed viewers the backstory for Victor Strand. Could this person be someone in Travis’ past that could help his character evolve? Alternatively, could this person be someone useful that could help Travis and Alicia escape from Connor’s vessel.
While it would be more interesting, from the viewers perspective, for Travis to meet up with a familiar face they too recognize, having someone who, conveniently, knows Travis and his past would be very helpful in any escape plans. After all, imagine if they could talk in a kind of code that sounded just like them talking about what they did as children, but really they were developing a plan to get them off the ship? Or what if this familiar face was as handy as Travis at fixing things — or, alternatively, at escaping? Perhaps they could manage to break out somehow as a result of this. Having Travis know someone on board Connor’s boat gives the pair of them a reassurance you don’t normally have with strangers.
Tobias, The Apocalypse Know-It-All From Season 1
Now this one is a long stretch but considering how popular he was with fans of Fear The Walking Dead, it would be nice to see how Tobias (Lincoln A. Castellanos) has fared since Season 1. So far Lincoln A. Castellanos is still only listed as appearing in two episodes from Season 1 of Fear The Walking Dead, but fans can only hope, can’t they? And considering the actor told Melty at the Walker Stalker Con in London that it was likely Tobias will return at some point, now would be an excellent time.
“I’ll say this, in general as far as the series goes not just Season 2, I don’t think it’s a question of if he’ll come back, it’s really more of when. When will the time be right for him to return, and what condition will he return in?”
