Kim Kardashian Bedecks Herself In Religious Jewelry That Nicole Brown Simpson Gifted Kris Jenner [Photo]
Kim Kardashian could have been feeling a bit nostalgic this past weekend.
On Saturday, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star debuted a piece of curious jewelry that fans have never seen before. Posting several videos of herself dressed in a black, sleeveless mini dress on Snapchat, Kim showed off a black lace choker bearing a cross charm, reports E! Online.
It was a gift her mother Kris Jenner received from one of her best friends, the late Nicole Brown Simpson, almost three decades ago.
“My mom’s necklace,” Kim Kardashian wrote, before revealing the identity of the original owner. “Gift from Nicole Brown Simpson #1988.”
Kim posted several short clips of herself bedecked in the choker, one of which sees her dancing around a makeup room while another one sees her appearing with a customized Kardashians filter.
Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, was friends with Nicole Brown Simpson and her ex-husband, O.J. Simpson, in the late 1980s and early 90s before Nicole was found murdered in her house along with friend Ron Goldman in 1994. The subsequent arrest of O.J. Simpson, a former NFL player and TV star, led to one of the most famous celebrity trials in the history of the United States.
O.J. was acquitted of all the charges but is currently serving a 33-year-prison sentence for numerous felonies, including armed robbery and kidnapping. He is expected to be out on parole in 2017.
While Kim Kardashian and her siblings were still kids back then, the famous trial is attributed with bringing the entire Jenner/Kardashian clan into the public limelight. In fact, the trial inadvertently led to the creation of celebrity culture and reality TV as we know it now, as was superbly illustrated in the new FX series American Crime Story: The People v. O. J. Simpson.
The show, in which Selma Blair starred as Kris and David Schwimmer played her late ex-husband and Kim’s father, Robert Kardashian, has once again brought the trial into focus, providing interesting insights into the childhood years of the Kardashian siblings.
Kris Jenner and Nicole Brown Simpson were known to be good friends, and Kris has constantly maintained that her untimely death affected her entire family in more ways than one. Earlier this year, in an emotional interview with People, Kris said that Nicole was the “best mom” she has ever known.
“I have these vivid memories of an amazing friendship and a life that we all had together. She was funny, she was beautiful and loyal and passionate and the best mom I had ever met,” she said.
In another interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Kim’s mother said she still feels guilt over Nicole’s death.
“We felt like we really failed her as a friend. You know, you go through this and you discover things about somebody, and it was horrible… She and I were supposed to have lunch the day after she was murdered. She said she wanted to show me some things and talk about what was in her safe. So now, unfortunately, it all makes sense. That’s probably what she wanted to reveal to me that next day, which broke my heart because I will always feel horrible that I didn’t pay enough attention.”

Kim Kardashian and her siblings might have been children when Nicole was murdered under tragic circumstances, but it is something that will forever stay with them. Kim’s donning of the cross might have been a way to remember, in Jenner’s words, the world’s “best mom.”
Because as Kim would know it now, it is not an easy responsibility.
