Britney Spears To Make Huge Comeback At 2016 Billboard Music Awards
Britney Spears is gearing up for a huge comeback at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.
According to USA Today, Spears will be returning to the stage for her first televised performance since she hit the Billboard Music Awards stage with Iggy Azalea in 2015, and will be treating fans to what the site described as “a medley of hits.”
Britney will also go home the big winner at the music awards show, which is set to take place on May 22, as Spears is also set to be honored with Billboard’s very prestigious Millennium Award at the ceremony.
According to the site, the big award is designed “to acknowledge outstanding career achievements and influence in the music industry” and is so prestigious that it has only previously been awarded to two other artists.
Beyoncé received the very special music award during the 2011 Billboard Music Awards ceremony, while Whitney Houston was given the award just months after her death in 2012.The Daily Star previously reported that Britney would be making an appearance at the big music awards show later this month, alleging that producers of the event were “desperate” to get Spears on-board for a performance.
“Everyone knows Britney brings in massive ratings, so it was a no-brainer for producers to try and get her on board,” an insider revealed last month. “With her new single dropping a couple of days before the show timing couldn’t be more perfect.”
“Britney Spears is in the best shape of her life so the performance is set to be a massive return to the top,” the source added of Spears’ big comeback.
Fans speculated that Spears could be making her triumphant return to the Billboard stage to perform her upcoming new single, which the Las Vegas Sun alleged last month is titled “Make Me (Oooh).”Britney is yet to confirm the details of her new single and as-yet-untitled ninth studio album, though the Nevada publication teased earlier this month that Spears’ new music will be released sooner rather than later.
The site reported on April 11 that “Britney will shoot the video for her new single next Monday (April 18)” and reported that both the single and music video “will be released four weeks later when editing is completed,” which would put Spears alleged release date around the week beginning May 16.
“The single and the video will thrill fans because it’s all new, totally different and somewhat unexpected,” a source told the Las Vegas Sun last month. “It’s different; it’s a turn. She’s gone from pretty straight-forward pop to a really interesting vibe with a lot of really cool stuff.”
The site also claimed that Britney Spears ninth studio album is then expected to follow the single release in June.
Fans took to social media following the big Billboard announcement, praising Spears on the news of her latest honor.“You just can’t deny Britney’s impact on pop culture. She deserves it all and MORE! Billboard Millennium Award,” @juneconey tweeted out, while @0snapitzemma tweeted, “Britney will get billboard millennium award and she will perform her new single at billboard awards!! Omg that’s so awesome, i can’t wait.”
“Britney is gonna perform a Medley of Hits at billboard music awards, receive the millennium award AND premiere her new single!! #Exciting!” @Saud_Aldosari added, and @TheTurtleJosh wrote, “I Need it to be may 22nd now! New Britney song and her performing it live with a medley and receiving The Billboard Millennium award.”
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards are set to air live from Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena on May 22 on ABC from 8 p.m. ET.
