Outlander is only three episodes into Season 2, and Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) have already found themselves in a dangerous situation. While the two prepare to face down Le Comte Saint Germain (Stanley Weber) in the coming episode, Claire recently discovered that Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) is still alive. Will Jamie find out that his former nemesis is still breathing in “La Dame Blanche?”
When he spoke with TV Line , Weber revealed that Saint Germain is going to be a major problem for Team Fraser. Not only is the character looking for revenge after one of his ships was destroyed, but Jamie and Claire don’t know a lot about this mysterious character.
“[Claire] is the ‘fuel of his rage,’” Weber explained in the interview. “Claire and Jamie help to enrage him and infuriate him. They push him, definitely… As soon as the Frasers step in, it’s a threat. And he deals with threats by being radical.”
According to Enstarz , Saint Germain is set to address the threat in the next episode of Outlander. While Claire and Jamie host a fancy dinner party to undermine Prince Charles’ war, Claire is poisoned by an unknown party. Based on Weber’s comments, there is a good chance that Saint Germain is behind the attempted assassination.
“She’s been dealing with this pregnancy quite privately because she’s had to put it aside to inspire Jamie to heal,” Balfe told The Hollywood Reporter . “So when this happens, first of all, she goes to Master Raymond, who she considered her friend, and interrogates him over whether he had any part in it. But she has her suspicions that it’s the Comte St. Germain.”
It is unclear how the poisoning will affect Claire’s pregnancy and her willingness to finish their mission. After all, if her baby’s life is not safe in France, there is a good chance that Claire will be more cautious moving forward.
At the same time, Saint Germain is going to be an ongoing problem for Jamie and Claire. Not only is he planning on trying to kill Claire during the dinner party, but there is no telling what lengths he will go to after he finds out that Claire is still alive.
“…[Saint Germain is] very mysterious, which is good for the audience and good for the people around him, because they never know what he’s going to be up to next,” Weber concluded.
Meanwhile, along with dealing with Saint Germain’s wrath, Claire is worried about the revelation that Black Jack is still alive. More specifically, Claire is struggling with the decision to tell Jamie that his tormentor did not die upon his escape from prison.
Claire first learned about Black Jack from his brother, Alexander Randall (Laurence Dobiesz). Although Black Jack was presumed dead after being thrown in the middle of a stampede at the end of season one, Alexander revealed that his brother is alive and well.
However, Christian Today is reporting that Jamie will learn about Black Jack’s fate in Episode 4. Jamie has struggled with everything that happened to him last season and his nightmares have started to affect his relationship with Claire. Naturally, Claire has withheld the information out of fear that Jamie might truly break down if he discovers that Black Jack might return.
Exactly how Jamie reacts to the news is anyone’s guess. Hopefully, the revelation that Black Jack is still alive will force Jamie to confront his emotions. Whatever happens, the official synopsis revealed that Jamie and Claire will try to repair their relationship by working on their physical intimacy.
The next episode of Outlander is set to air April 30 on Starz.
