‘Zombieland 2’ Could Begin Filming This Summer — Who Is In It? What’s It About?
It was a film from 2009 that became an instant hit and no one really saw it doing nearly as well as it actually did. Zombieland had a budget of less than $24 million and pulled in more than $100 million worldwide, but its cult following to this day has kept it trucking. Now, the sequel is confirmed and rumor has it that it will actually begin filming sometime this summer. Big questions remain though as to who will be in it and what is it actually about?
According to Bloody-Disgusting, a number of casting sites have said that Zombieland 2 is shooting for a production start date of this August. If all goes according to their plans, shooting is going to begin at the end of the summer in Atlanta.
Now, even with that being the target date for production to begin, it is not confirmed that Zombieland 2 will indeed begin shooting then. That appears to be what they want to happen, but a lot needs to be put into place before that can actually happen.
Earlier in April at CinemaCon, there was a logo revealed for Zombieland 2, so it’s going to happen, but that’s all Sony has had to offer so far.

The original film from 2009 starred Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, Emma Stone, and Woody Harrelson. Since then, all of them have really moved on to bigger and much bigger things, so it doesn’t seem as if any of the main cast are going to be back for the sequel.
Sony isn’t 100 percent certain if they’re going to miss out, but nothing has really been said as of yet and it would take them having a free schedule to do it. Not just that, but it would take much bigger deals than they received in the original for them to return as well.
In Zombieland, Eisenberg was the main character who was just a shy college student trying to get home to his family in Ohio. While trying to get there and through the zombie apocalypse, he meets up with Woody Harrelson who simply wants one more Twinkie.
Along the way, the two meet up with some sisters who are played by Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone. Together, the team of Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock attempt to survive and make it through the world unscathed.
For years, the status of Zombieland 2 has been in limbo as it was going to happen, and then it wasn’t going to happen. The movie was set to begin production, and then plans fell through and it was put on the back burner yet again. Now, fans believe that having a logo and some information means that Sony is finally going through with the sequel and allowing it to move ahead. Maybe that is the case, or maybe it’s just a rumor that it will begin filming in August.
Either way, this is the closest that Zombieland 2 has gotten to becoming a reality, and that’s a good sign for everyone. The only thing is that casting needs to be done and the plot needs to be established, but any step forward is a good one.
Zombieland 2 is coming and there is no doubt of that, but there is still so much that is left up in the air. It’s not known who will be in it or how the film will carry on from the first one. If filming is really set to begin in Atlanta this August, then Sony needs to get a move on and have some things in place very soon. It’s time to break out the double-tap.
