Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Bloody ‘Universal Soldier 4’ Trailer Released
Jean-Claude Van Damme made his return to the big screen as an action star in The Expendables movie and subsequent sequel, and now the actor has another action sequel set for release.
The trailer for Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning has been released, showing Jean-Claude Van Damme as the villain with a shaved head, blastr, a blog connected to the syfy network, reported.
Jean-Claude Van Damme plays the character Luc Deveraux, a villain channeling Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now, the blog noted. It’s a role he appears suited for, as Van Damme will also play the bad guy in The Expendables 2,” which comes out Friday.
The movie is the fourth in the Universal Soldier franchise — or sixth, blastr points out, depending on whether you consider Brother in Arms and Unfinished Business part of the official cannon of the series.
Jean-Claude Van Damme is joined by other Expendables star for the Universal Soldier update as Dolph Lundgren returns to the series. It may be interesting to see just how he is worked into the plot, as Lundgren was killed off in over-the-top fashion in both of his previous films, the original Universal Soldier film and the 2010 installment, Regeneration.
The pair are joined by noted actor and stuntman extraordinaire Scott Adkins, who also appeared in The Expendables 2.
Both Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme have been working continually since they peaked as action stars in the late 1980s and early 1990s, noted Screen Crush, but their work has been harder to find. Since the downfall of most video rental stores, their mostly direct-to-DVD movies have been difficult to come across, so their return in both The Expendables 2 and Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning is notable for action fans who miss the old days.
