Becky G Says She Is Not That ‘Becky’: Is She Dropping New Music Of Her Own?
Everyone has been talking about the woman named “Becky with the good hair” ever since Beyoncé’s new album, Lemonade, dropped on Saturday, April 23. Singer Becky G took to Twitter to get one thing straight: She is not that Becky, even if she does have a good head of hair.
Beyoncé got the Beyhive buzzing about “Becky,” who she calls out on the track “Sorry” for having an affair with Jay Z. Singer Becky G gives her fans some serious hair envy even with her new haircut. A day after the album dropped, the “Shower” sing tweeted that she is not the “Becky” who Beyoncé refers to on her visual album.

The aspiring pop star has been working on some new music of her own, though. Rumors are swirling that she may come out with two albums: both an English and Spanish album. According to Teen Vogue, Becky G has already dropped some news about her upcoming album. She previously told the outlet that she’s aware that “I’ve had my fans waiting forever,” for her highly-anticipated debut album.
Although she has already released the chart-topping hits “Shower” and “Break a Sweat,” she still doesn’t have an album to call her own. A date hasn’t been confirmed for her debut, but “the newer stuff will most likely come when I’m done [with] the movie I’m filming right now.”
Becky G is playing the role of Trini Kwan, the Yellow Ranger, in the Power Rangers film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on March 24, 2017. Somehow, her new music will correlate with the movie.
“I think my fans can expect something totally different than what they’re used to seeing. I’m a pretty real person, open and whatnot. But for people who may not really be too familiar with my music, I think they see a pop princess always glammed up. You know, pretty all the time. This character is the total opposite of that.”
Becky G also told Teen Vogue that she relates a lot to her character, which will be witnessed in her new music.
“I think it’ll surprise people how much I really do relate to her. What I’ve used for inspiration to get into certain mindsets are…things I’m going through in my career. Even though she may not be this musical person, she’s dealing with her own struggles and I’m also dealing with mine.”
Ever since she signed a record contract at age 14, Becky admitted that she felt in a rush to release her first album. But now she feels ready “to make music that will be worthy of the first Becky G album.” She feels different from when she first broke out onto the music scene. For instance, Becky went through her first heartbreak with former boyfriend Austin Mahone last year.
“I couldn’t write about love or heartbreak, things that are real to me now,” she added.
Becky G also confirmed that she plans to release an English album as well as a Spanish album. Expect both to be her most personal works yet.
“It’s actually music in Spanish that I’ve been focusing on. The music I’ve been doing in English lately has been a little more pop-driven and the stuff in Spanish is going to be a bit more urban, a bit reggaeton-inspired so it will have that vibe. It’s exciting.”
The California-based beauty has already tapped into her Latin routes by collaborating with Thalia and J. Balvin, according to the Latin Times. Becky G has also been busy becoming the new face of Covergirl and launching her new campaign with Degree Women, which will be featured in the upcoming iHeartRadio concert series this summer.
