Joe Simpson Charged With Two Counts Of DUI
Joe Simpson, father of Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, has been charged with two counts of DUI after his arrest on August 4. While The Inquisitr initially reported that Simpson had not been charged after his drunk driving arrest, it appears that the case was turned over to the Los Angeles district attorney for charges.
Frank Mateljan, the city attorney’s spokesman, has said that Joe Simpson, 54, could face a maximum sentence of six months in jail, 36 months of probation, and $1,000 in fines, reports USA Today.
Simpson was stopped by officers on Ventura Boulevard in Snerman Oaks, Los Angeles around 10 pm. Because police suspected he was intoxicated, they ordered him to undergo a breathalyzer test. When Joe blew a .12 (.04 higher than the legal limit), he was arrested and spent the rest of the night at the police station, reports AZ Central.
Joe Simpson was released at 9:41 the next morning and was not required to post bail. Ironically, Joe’s daughter Jessica Simpson was discussing on Twitter how she opts for water instead of alcohol at weekend parties. Jessica tweeted:
”Responsibility has drastically changed my life! Saturday night drink of choice … WATER! ? (sic)”
Perhaps her father should learn from her tweets and do the same. Simpson, who once worked at Heights Baptist church in Texas, is no stranger to controversy, although a DUI charge is new, according to The Christian Post. Simpson was caught making comments about Jessica Simpson’s breast size, prompting critics to accuse the elder Simpson of turning his daughter into a sex symbol. He stated that they also pointed out his failing to uphold Christian values. Simpson stated:
“I was accused, [because of] my background in the ministry, you know ‘your daughter doesn’t love God anymore,’ ‘you’ve forsaken the church’ and I’m like, you don’t even know me or know my family.”
Are you surprised that Jessica and Ashlee Simpson’s father, Joe Simpson, was charged with a DUI?
