Ellen Pompeo On Former ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Patrick Dempsey And Alex-Mer Rumors [Video]
Popular Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday and possibly made a jab at her former co-actor, Patrick Dempsey, and his leaving the show.
At the beginning of the interview, Ellen mentioned a joint love of architecture between herself and Pompeo and asked the Grey’s actress about the ranch she is looking to buy. Reportedly Pompeo has chickens, says she loves animals, and with the current food situation in the U.S., is “really into growing my food.”
However, it was when DeGeneres asked Pompeo how things have been going on Grey’s Anatomy since her onscreen husband, Dempsey, left the series towards the end of the last season that things got both funny and interesting.
Pompeo responded that the show is better than ever, saying, “It’s amazing how much you get done without a penis.”

The audience screamed with laughter, and while what she said sounds a little harsh, Pompeo did soften the blow by adding, “We miss him dearly. But, yeah, the show is doing very well.”
Pompeo went on to say that many of the show’s regular fans were upset by the departure of the character Derek Shepherd, but in her mind the change was for the better and she reckons this keeps a lot of people watching.
“I think a lot of people were really upset about his departure, which is super understandable,” she told Ellen, adding, “But I think the change is part of the reason why the show goes on so long. I think they get so upset about the change, but change is precisely what everyone always needs to sort of get to the next place.”
In the recent season, a new romance has been teased for Ellen Pompeo’s character, Meredith Grey, possibly with the character of her friend, Dr. Alex Karev, played by Justin Chambers.

It is clear that Meredith’s character has a growing dependency on Alex since the Cristina character left the show and since the passing of Derek Shepherd, which often causes jealousy for his girlfriend, Jo, played by Camilla Luddington.

Yahoo! TV recently reported that during an interview with TVLine, Pompeo cast the rumors aside, as she believes Alex and Meredith make far better siblings than sweethearts.
She said, “I think they’re too close… too much like brother and sister. I have super-close friends who I’m not romantically attracted to at all. So I think just because you’re so in love with someone in one way doesn’t mean it’s a romantic love. But they certainly do understand each other a lot.”
Reportedly TVLine ran a recent poll on the subject and a slight majority of Grey’s Anatomy fans did say they were definitely in favor of an Alex-Mer love affair.
When asked what she thought of this, Pompeo said should the series creator Shonda Rhimes choose to go that route, with the longtime friends and co-workers becoming romantically attached, she would still commit to the story line, saying that ultimately it doesn’t really matter what she thinks.
She said, “This is Shonda’s show and whatever path she chooses to go down creatively, I’m with her. I’m going to give it my all. I trust her vision.”
“We’ve been a great team so far.”
Fans can only look forward to future episodes of Grey’s Anatomy to see if Cupid does finally shoot an arrow at the popular character, Meredith Grey.
