‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ Might Start Filming This Year, If Robert Downey Jr Can Get A Break
Sherlock Holmes 3 will possibly start production soon. Sherlock Holmes is the other great action franchise starring Robert Downey Jr. But how will Downey have time between his appearances in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the two part Avengers: Infinity War, and anything else that Marvel involves him in? If he’s going to fit the time in to do it, then Sherlock Holmes 3 needs to start filming as soon as possible, like right this second. Downey says he has been speaking with director Guy Ritchie, so they may have pieced together enough of a concept to start production.
Not only is Robert Downey Jr. busy acting, but Guy Ritchie is busy working on his new interpretation of the King Arthur legend. He is working on the first film in a multi-film series. The first movie, Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, is getting ready for a 2017 release. Not only that, but Guy Ritchie has also recently made amends with his ex-wife, Madonna, and both are trying to normalize relations with their son. But all the fans can think about are how Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. teamed up for such a refreshing take on Sherlock Holmes that it would be a crime if they didn’t build the franchise to three movies and beyond.

Of course, the first Sherlock Holmes movie is probably a more action packed take on the character then you are likely to see in other interpretations. But since Sherlock Holmes is all about the brains, the action and calculated thinking work together wonderfully. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, was just as good as the first movie, if not better. It seemed that Guy Ritchie perfected the formula he began in the first movie. As long as they can get a good script, the production team can go at it a third time, and leave at least an almighty trilogy for posterity.
News broke of a possible Sherlock Holmes 3 when Robert Downey Jr. was interviewed by Shortlist.
“When we’re making those Sherlock movies it is off the hook. We’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m excited about it.”
That certainly isn’t a definitive comment. It just means he likes the whole idea. But Sherlock Holmes is distributed by Warner Bros., and they own DC Comics. If they could just lock Robert Downey Jr. into doing Sherlock Holmes 3 and beyond, they could distract him from Iron Man duties, and that could give all those upcoming Justice League related movies a better chance in the theaters. It may be the only chance DC has to turn things around. Or else Marvel will stay dominant in the movie world, just like they reign over DC in the comics world, for the most part.

In August, IGN spoke with producer Lionel Wigram about progress on the Sherlock Holmes 3 script.
“I think we would all love to do one if we could come up with something that really was really going to knock it out of the park and was going to be the best of the three. So we’re working on that – it’s quite hard to do.”
Nobody wants to bring out a movie that sucks, especially as part of a franchise that people have enjoyed. So the whole team wants to make sure they have all their ideas in order before embarking on a new Sherlock Holmes movie. If it doesn’t meet fan expectations, then they will have ruined the series and would get criticized for rushing something out before it’s ready, so you can understand the concern. But the potential success for a Sherlock Holmes 3 is so high, that they need to take a chance and put it out sooner or later.
