Kylie Jenner Uses Bob Marley Snapchat Filter, Faces Backlash

Kylie Jenner has found herself in serious hot water again. The Snapchat addict has been accused of portraying blackface after she used the Bob Marley filter in honor of 4/20.

The 18-year-old reality star thought it was a great idea to use the controversial new Bob Marley filter on the social media app. The popular Jenner sister shot a video of herself excitedly using the filter, not realizing how totally wrong it is.

“420. Yaaas, b***h. Yaaas.” Jenner is heard saying in the clip. The starlet is seen checking herself out in the clip as she’s seen wearing the fake Rasta beanie, dreadlocks, and darkened skin.

If you follow Kylie, you know that she loves using all of Snapchat’s filters. The filter was recently added in honor of Bob’s support for marijuana on 4/20, also known as the unofficial marijuana smoking holiday. The filter received plenty of backlash on social media because it literally paints a black face on any one who willingly uses it.

Snapchat has since responded to the backlash. They argue that the filter allows fans to show some appreciation for the legendary musician.

“Then lens we launched today was created in partnership with the Bob Marley estate. It gives people a new way for people to share appreciation for Bob Marley on his music.”

This isn’t the first time that Kylie Jenner has been accused of using blackface on social media. Just a year ago, Jenner was under attack when she released a series of mysterious photos that featured her with darkened skin for a top-secret photo shoot. The futuristic photos featured the teen modeling underneath black and neon lights. Even fellow starlets Karrueche Tran and Zendaya shared their thoughts about the controversial photos.

One of the photos raised eyebrows when Kylie shared a photo that read, “What I wish I looked like all the time” in the caption.

The beauty maiden then removed the photo and replaced it with a similar photo explaining that she’s not using blackface.

“This is all black light and neon lights people lets all calm (sic),” she wrote as she tagged her photographer and glam squad.

Jenner also took to Twitter to clarify what she meant on Instagram.

The starlet was so distraught over the social media backlash that it nearly ruined her Easter holiday.

“Kylie’s Easter has been ruined. She’s crying and really upset that people think she was being racist. Khloe has been really supportive, but Kim not so much.”

This also isn’t the first time that Jenner has been accused of cultural appropriation. She created social media backlash just last week when she claimed she “started wigs” and refused to back down after receiving criticism for wearing both cornrows and dreadlocks in various photos.

What’s surprising is that her older sister Kim Kardashian educated viewers about the history of blackface in an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. She expressed the disgust she felt when she saw a man wearing a Kanye West costume approaching her.

If Kylie has seen the show or spoken to Kim about the incident, then she would know better than not to promote blackface on social media.

So far, there is no word on whether or not Snapchat will remove the controversial filter. As for Kylie, she hasn’t responded to this latest backlash. Instead, she’s been actively showing off her Coachella looks and promoting her ever-growing lip kit line on social media. She did follow up with this floral filter on Snapchat, which she calls her favorite.
