Tina Fey Reignites Old Feud With Taylor Swift With ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Diss
Tina Fey appears to be taking a shot at Taylor Swift in a new scene featured in Season 2 of the Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
According to Us Weekly, Fey appeared to throw a little shade Taylor’s way during the second season of in the on-demand series after Tina brought up Swift’s infamous line about her and Amy Poehler, where she claimed that there was a “special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.”
The site is reporting that Tina’s latest Swift diss went down in the ninth episode of Season 2, titled “Kimmy Meets a Drunk Lady!” in which Titus, played by Tituss Burgess, refused to let Ellie Kemper’s character, Kimmy, take a shower because he’s using the bathroom to give perms to his Barbie dolls.
After Kimmy tells Titus that she’s going to take a shower, Titus then tells the title character “How could you do this to my Barbies? You know, there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women!”Perez Hilton also speculated that Fey, who co-created the series with Robert Carlock, could have been poking a little fun at Taylor with the quip by hinting that Swift herself was like a Barbie doll.
Tina Fey’s newest apparent Taylor Swift diss comes three years after Taylor made the infamous quote about her and Amy Poehler after the two joked about Swift’s rocky dating record while hosting the Golden Globe Awards in 2013.
According to Vulture, the feud first began when Poehler and Fey joked about Taylor’s tumultuous past dating life while co-hosting the awards show, and told the world that Swift needed to stay away from Michael J. Fox’s young son.
Swift then hit back at the comedy duo in an interview with Vanity Fair, where Taylor recited a quote Katie Couric had told her about women who don’t help other women.“You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people,” Taylor Swift told the magazine when quizzed about the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler incident in March, 2013, “Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’ ”
Both Fey and Poehler later hit back at Taylor’s remarks, though both had pretty different responses.
Amy told the Hollywood Reporter following the incident that she actually “felt bad” that Swift was upset by the awards show joke, and noted that she actually thinks Swift is “talented.”
“Aw, I feel bad if she was upset,” Poehler told the site of Swift’s reaction to her and Tina’s joke in 2013, “I am a feminist and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff.”Tina Fey also responded to Taylor’s fire back to Us Weekly, where she slammed Swift for not being able to take a joke. “It was just a joke, and I think it was actually a very benign joke,” Fey said.
Us Weekly also revealed that Amy and Tina then joked about Taylor’s line once again at the 2014 Golden Globe awards, where Fey once again recited Swift’s remarks.
“I just want to say congratulations again to my friend Amy Poehler,” Tina said after Amy took home the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Comedy or Musical for the show Parks and Recreation, joking “I love you, and there’s a special place in hell for you.”
