Reuters reported that the couple disappeared sometime Monday afternoon near their house in Arlington, Washington.
Shunn, 45, and Patenaude, 46, were reported missing by neighbors the following Tuesday after they failed to show up for an Iron Maiden concert in Tacoma, Washington, and neighbors had noticed their puppy was loose from their yard. The couple had been only been married for four years and had met at the Burning Man Festival a few years prior. Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO News reported that friends described the Washington State couple as “outdoor enthusiasts who loved their animals.”“Patenaude was last seen on Monday afternoon near the couple’s home in Arlington, Washington, about 40 miles north of Seattle. Shunn has not been seen since leaving work in Kirkland that same day.”
“She [Patenaude] takes care of all the farm animals before she’ll go make her coffee in the morning… She’s very routine. This is not in her character at all.”
The couples animals are now being cared for by friends from British Columbia, where Patenaude is from.
Both Shunn and Patenaude’s vehicles, a 2000 tan LandRover Discovery and a 1995 black Jeep, were recovered in a large area north of the victims home in a remote area outside of Oso, Washington. This was after a search and rescue helicopter had spotted the vehicles.
According to a press release put out by Snohomish County, “The Landrover and Jeep were located in a remote, wooded area in the Oso area. Detectives have not yet been able to search the vehicles. Both vehicles appear to have gone over an embankment and are located in the same general area of each other.”
The couple was nowhere to be found near the vehicles.
“The recovery of Patrick and Monique is our agency’s number one priority right now, for the sake of their families,” said Sheriff Ty Trenary. “Our second priority is getting the Reed brothers into custody and off the streets,” as reported in a Snohomish County press release.
Detectives were able to trace surveillance footage tying the Reed brothers to the disposal of the vehicles. Detectives now believe the couple may have been victims of homicide violence due to evidence collected at both vehicles and at the couple’s home in Arlington. It is believed that Shunn and Patenaude were involved in a property dispute with one of the brothers.
Snohomish County is asking that anyone with direct information on Tony and John Reed or the missing couple is to call 911 or contact the Snohomish County Anonymous Tip Line at (425) 388-3845.
