Bam Margera Sneaks Booze Into Dry House, Breaks Down Over Ryan Dunn’s Death 5 Years After Fatal Crash
Bam Margera is still mourning the death of his best friend Ryan Dunn, and it seems as if the pain will never go away. Margera and Dunn, longtime besties-turned-millionaires thanks to their Jackass franchise, cheated death for years, but Dunn’s luck ran out during a high-speed car crash in 2011. Now, Bam Margera is still grappling with the loss and his addiction to alcohol in the VH1 reality show Family Therapy with Dr. Jenn.
Us Weekly posted a clip from a new episode of the therapy-themed reality show, which shows Bam having a breakdown while talking about the death of Dunn. While he always liked to party, Bam Margera says that his addiction to alcohol was fueled after his longtime friend died and everything just became too much to bear.
“It just seems like everything at one point came crashing down. That’s when it wasn’t even drinking for the fun or for the social part of it. It was just drinking because [of] total depression, kinda.”
Margera also said that the death of his close friend led him to feel “completely lost,” so he found a new best friend with the bottle.
“Like, ‘Everything sucks, and the only thing that doesn’t suck is this bottle of Johnnie Walker.'”

According to VH1, Bam Margera actually brought a bottle of booze with him to the reality show, which is set in a dry house. The 36-year-old pro skateboarder revealed to Dr. Jenn that he was initially planning on drinking the alcohol “in case of an emergency” while in the house, but he later decided against it.
Bam Margera is no stranger to reality TV, but fans never expected to see him on a show like Family Therapy alongside his now-somber mom April Margera.
Bam’s TV career started in 2000 on MTV’s wild stunt-themed reality show Jackass. Bam Margera and his pals, including Dunn, went on to star in a spinoff Viva La Bam, as well as several big screen movies, but everything came crashing down when Dunn died in a horrific high-speed car crash in their West Chester, Pennsylvania, hometown in 2011. At the time, Bam revealed that it was the first time someone close to him had died, and he broke down in front of news cameras at the crash site.
Bam’s connection with Ryan was unique. On the night of Dunn’s death, Margera was actually in Arizona partying with friends, but he later told a news reporter that he started ripping apart a rental van for no reason. Margera later found out that his inexplicable tirade occurred at the exact moment Ryan Dunn had died.

Dunn’s untimely death prompted Bam Margera to warn fans about drinking and driving. During a visit to WMMR in Philadelphia, Bam told listeners not to get behind the wheel even if they have even one drink. But sadly, Bam was unable to beat his own demons — until now.
While fans are currently witnessing some of Bam Margera’s darkest days as he tries to climb out from a year-long bender on the VH1 reality show, Bam has reportedly remained sober since Family Therapy wrapped last year. According to TMZ, April Margera said that Bam is a completely different person since seeking treatment with Dr. Jenn Mann, and she calls the change in her son an “absolute miracle.”
You can see Bam Margera on Family Therapy With Dr. Jenn Wednesdays at 8/7c on VH1.
