‘Outlander’ Season 2 Spoilers: Claire & Jamie’s Relationship To Change Drastically
Outlander Season 2 is underway and after the premiere last week, fans are more excited than ever about the direction the show is heading.
According to the Huffington Post, Claire and Jamie are in for a wild ride during Season 2, as fans have already seen that Claire returns to the 20th century and reunites with her first husband, Frank, all the while longing for her lost love, Jamie.
During Outlander Season 2, fans will see that Claire and Jamie are still very much in love, but after the brutal rape and torture that Jamie suffered at the hands of Black Jack Randall, things just aren’t the same between the husband and wife.
“When we see them in France at the very beginning, there’s hope for a new life, but very quickly that gets strained because Claire gives Jamie this mission to try to change history,” actress Caitriona Balfe said.
“Their relationship becomes very strained. And Claire is obviously dealing with her pregnancy, and she’s frustrated because she doesn’t have an outlet other than drinking tea and gossiping with women, which makes her crazy. We see them really struggle to keep their bond and keep their intimacy.”
Outlander fans expect nothing less than for Jamie to still be fragile about what’s happened to him. The memories are sure to be hard to push back, and will never fade away. Unfortunately, it will impact his marriage to Claire, but not to worry, the two will still continue to have some very steamy love scenes, which the show has quickly become known for.
“Myself and Caitriona, we went to the writers after we read a few drafts and said we wanted to make sure we honored what had happened, and so therefore the sex in Season 2 is different. Jamie’s affected by [the rape]. He can’t almost see Claire without thinking of Randall and what happened to him. It’s tough. And he’s not cured,” actor Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser revealed.
While Outlander fans who haven’t read the book series written by Diana Gabaldon are worried about Claire and Jamie’s relationship now that it’s been revealed Claire returns to the 20th century while pregnant with Jamie’s baby, which Frank has already agreed to raise as his own, they should still expect plenty of both characters.
Each season of Outlander will follow one of the eight (soon to be nine) books, and it looks like the entire series could basically be mapped out for fans. Also, for those wondering if Season 2 follows the second book, Dragonfly In Amber, the answer is “yes.” Sam Heughan reveals that despite there only being 13 episodes in Season 2, the shows will follow closely to the book, a fact that should delight fans.
So far, all viewers know for sure is that Claire and Jamie have safely found their way to France, where they plan to infiltrate the Jacobites, and try to stop the Scottish uprising from happening altogether. Viewers may remember that Claire knows that the British come out victorious and the Highlander culture is then destroyed as a result, which is what the two are trying to change, along with the future of Scotland.
Claire and Jamie contact Jamie’s cousin, Jared, who questions why Jamie has a sudden interest in the world of politics. Jamie explains to him how Black Jack Randall flogged him twice, and even shows the scars on this back to prove it. Jared then tells his cousin that if he and Claire will come to his home in Paris and run his wine business while he’s away for work, than he will introduce the Frasers to all the main players of the Jacobite movement. It should lead to some very interesting twists and turns throughout the season.
Outlander fans can watch Season 2 unfold on Saturday nights at 9 p.m. on Starz.
