‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Casts Hugh Dancy As Dr. Flynn

The Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, Fifty Shades Darker, is rounding out its cast, and not only has Kim Basinger been added as Elena “Mrs. Robinson” Lincoln, but Hugh Dancy has been announced to portray Dr. John Flynn in the film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hugh Dancy will play an important role in Fifty Shades Darker. Dr. John Flynn is a British psychiatrist who is revealed to have moved to Seattle after he married an American woman.

Dr. Flynn is the therapist to lead character Christian Grey, who happens to know all of his secrets. In fact, Flynn may be the only one who knows everything there is to know about Christian and his mysterious background that he chooses to keep hidden from girlfriend Anastasia Steele.

According to the Fifty Shades of Grey Wiki page, Dr. John Flynn “is a psychiatrist and therapist treating Christian Grey (and later, Leila Williams). He is originally from England, but he married an American woman named Rhian and moved to Seattle. Together, they have two young boys. Dr. Flynn uses Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) as a part of Christian’s treatment.”

Hugh Dancy should round the cast out nicely, and fans are looking forward to scenes between the actor and his new co-star Jamie Dornan, who plays Christian Grey. The men should share a few nice moments on screen, including a fan favorite from the book in which they both bid very highly for Anastasia Steele during Christian’s mother’s masquerade charity ball auction.

As many Fifty Shades Darker fans know from the books, Christian and Anastasia’s relationship soars to new heights this time around. The two fall deeply in love with one another, but there are many things trying to keep them apart.

One obstacle Mr. Grey and Miss Steele will be forced to confront is Christian’s ex-girlfriend, Leila. Leila is a former submissive of Christian’s who is now stalking him as well as Ana. The woman seems out of her mind and it all comes to a head when Leila breaks into Anastasia’s apartment.

Thankfully, Christian and his bodyguard, Taylor, are able to stop Leila’s attack and get her the proper medical and mental help that she needs, which is also another way Hugh Dancy’s character Dr. Flynn could come into play during the Fifty Shades Darker movie.

Another woman who tries to stand in the way of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele’s romance will be Elena Lincoln. Elena, or “Mrs. Robinson,” as Ana calls her, is a friend of Christian’s mother, and also the woman who introduced him to the BDSM scene. Ana is not only jealous of Elena’s past sexual relationship with Christian, but she is also upset by her current business partnership with him.

In addition, Ana believes that Elena is a child molester as she started her relationship with Christian when he was a young teenager, although Christian maintains the fact that Elena helped him out of a very dark time in his life, stemming from his childhood, which should be further explored during Fifty Shades Darker.

Although Fifty Shades of Grey got less than flattering reviews by critics, fans are looking forward to the sequel, which is regarded as a heavy favorite among book readers. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson’s steamy scenes, as well as the introduction of a slew of new characters, leave fans hopeful that Fifty Shades Darker will be much better and full of more content than the original.

The movie is currently filming in Vancouver and is due for release in February 2017.
