New Trailer For ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Premieres And It’s What Fans Have Been Waiting For
The MTV Movie Awards was an event riddled with excitement, intrigue and wonderful surprises. Amidst the award-winners and their fans were the viewers who waited eagerly for any added surprises (the kind for which these types of events are famous).
As actresses and actors, filmmakers and directors all won awards — Star Wars: The Force Awakens took home the top award of the night, Movie of the Year — trailers intermittently flashed on and off of the screen. One such trailer was a new look at Suicide Squad. And while this was decently entertaining, it paled in comparison to another (unexpected) trailer: a 2-minute teaser for the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Any committed fan can explain the basic plot. It’s Harry Potter meets The Great Gatsby, minus a significant amount of glam and fashion. In the film, Newt Scamander is a wizard Brit who travels to New York City with a mysterious suitcase, as Tech Insider reports.
“Starring Oscar Winner Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander (the author behind one of Harry’s textbooks), the film will be set in New York City in 1926. He comes to NYC from London with a briefcase full of magical creatures.”
This odd piece of luggage looks completely normal from the outside, but contains secrets our Muggle (or No-Maj, as they’re called in North America) minds would never expect. The previous trailer, which was released toward the end of 2015, already revealed to audiences that a large part of the action in Fantastic Beasts centers around this suitcase. When the case opens (or is left open) unexpectedly, some of the creatures locked inside escape and reek havoc on the Big Apple itself.

For a while, fans have been laying low, waiting patiently for another glimpse into the world of a magical, 1920s New York City. It has now been about four months since the release of the teaser and many people had probably forgotten that the film was set to release on November 18 this year. It was a good thing that this trailer has been sent out into the world; fans definitely needed it.
The trailer revealed a lot more about the storyline than moviegoers previously knew. Included in the new information tidbits was the fact that Newt Scamander had been kicked out of Hogwarts, but one teacher in particular wanted him to stay and that one teacher was Albus Dumbledore.
Viewers also learn more about Newt’s mysterious suitcase, including its anti-Muggle protective locks and its hideaway capabilities, recalling fond memories of watching Mary Poppins for the first time. Fans also discover that Newt has a roommate, of sorts. And this roommate already makes intriguing facial expressions and humorous comments, so he will likely be the comic relief in the film.

In addition to these insights, viewers also get to meet a couple of Newt Scamander’s beasts, including a round-ish creature that looks like a mix between a badger, an ant-eater and a sloth. The creature definitely has the long claws to fit any of those three, but its identity remains a mystery.
USA Today even notes that the trailer ends when a hint of John Williams’ iconic score is played, as listeners can hear a few gentle notes of the Harry Potter theme play in the background.
After the first trailer’s release in December 2015, and after the exciting news last month (that the film will be part of a trilogy), fans have much to look forward to. This new trailer just promises more intrigue and excitement than they could have hoped for.
