Joe Simpson, Father Of Jessica And Ashlee Simpson, Busted For DUI

Joe Simpson, who is also known as the man who created both Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, was recently busted while driving under the influence, according to the folks at TMZ. Authorities claim that Simpson, 54, was driving through Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks at around 10 pm on August 4 when he was pulled over by police. Simpson, allegedly intoxicated, was arrested at the scene. Not surprisingly, he spent the rest of the evening in jail.

Presently, the case has not been turned over to the district attorney’s office. However, this doesn’t mean that Simpson won’t face consequences for his poor judgment in the very near future. TMZ speculates that, since this is the celebrity father’s first offence, he’ll likely face a hefty fine. Of course, if they decide to throw the book at the guy, he could lose his licence and/or spend some time behind bars. Here’s hoping he learned his lesson.

Simpson isn’t the only famous individual who has battled DUI charges over the past few months. Singer-actor Rick Springfield was arrested back in May of 2011 for driving his 1963 Corvette Stingray while under the influence of alcohol. According to Mercury News, Springfield cut a deal in the case earlier this week, pleading no contest to the charges hanging over his head.

More recently, country music star Randy Travis was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle during a late night car ride. Various reports indicate that Travis was completely naked at the time of the accident. Earlier this year, Randy was busted for public intoxication outside of a Baptist church in Sanger, Texas.

According to the MADD website, “over 1.41 million drivers were arrested in 2010 for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.” Additionally, one-third of all drivers arrested or convicted of driving while intoxicated are repeat offenders.
